November 20, 2011fb1664868775A ridiculous, brainless comedy, but what else would you expect from Jay & Silent Bob?

Only for the most seasoned of View Askiewniverse fans, Kevin Smith wrongfully ends his series of films with an all out compilation of every movie in aforementioned universe. (Only to revisit it in Clerks II five years later.) Ranging from Clerks to Chasing Amy to Scream 3, Smith ... read more

Jay: [typing a message on an internet chat room] All you motherfuckers are gonna pay. You are the ones who are the ball-lickers.
Great to see Jay and Silent Bob in their own flick. There is nothing bad about this movie if you are an avid and devoted fan of the View Askewniverse.... read more -

Hilarious. Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back features endless cameos from some pretty big names. Wes Craven and Gus Van Sant even have cameos. It is hilarious for what it is. The comedy is not what you would call tasteful, but I'd hope you would know that. It jokes about apes "smoki... read more

I don't think I've ever seen a finer example of a cinematic ego trip than this. This film is essentially a 114 minute exercise in fan wankery and in-jokes. It's probably best to see this only if you're a fan of Kevin Smith, or have good knowledge of his work.
If you didn't al... read more -

It really helps if you are a fan of Kevin Smith films to appreciate this movie, which is full of characters, references and inside jokes from his former flicks that everyone not familiar with them will probably be lost and somewhat annoyed at the admittedly below the belt humor t... read more

More of a fluff piece next to where Kevin Smith has usually taken his films, but it's fun none the less. It is essentially all inside jokes from his previous movies rolled into one giant road trip with Jay and Silent Bob, two of the most entertaining characters. It's dirty and ou... read more

A fond farewell or succumbing to the fans? Either way, let?s hope it?s the last we see (apart from Clerks 2) as they are becoming quite annoying now!

Kevin Smith makes one big ego trip into a damn hilarious, nod and a wink comedy. Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back is a big-budget in-joke. This isn't for the masses, it's for those familiar with Smith's work and characters. Those not familiar will no doubt be lost. The jokes are mu... read more
Critic Reviews
I admit to enjoying -- in a drunken, half-asleep kind of way -- parts of this ramshackle road movie with its running Miramax guest stars and its endless homo jokes. Full Review
Smith, coming off the madly audacious Dogma, knows that he's slumming this time and revels in it. Full Review
The picture lacks the mix of innocence and savagery that branded [Smith's] other films.
In keeping with the Smith rules, the movie is irreverent, self-referential, twisted, cheap and tasteless. And, of course, I mean that as the highest compliment.
In addition to being [Smith's] filthiest, this is his most free-associative movie. In spite of and because of its homemade look, it's also his funniest. Full Review
A desperate attempt by Kevin Smith to pay homage to himself in a self-consciously left-handed way. Full Review
A dumbfounding, cameo-peppered road comedy that demeans everyone associated with it. Full Review
The originality and intelligence that made Smith's Clerks and Chasing Amy such refreshing pleasures are all but absent.
The relentless torrent of foul language--and not just from Jay--becomes numbing and finally makes the film seem more crass than amusing. Full Review
