The rise, fall, and rebirth of a turntable master sets the stage for this comedy drama with elements of mockumentary. Frankie Wilde (Paul Kaye) is one of the world's leading dance music DJs; his sets ... read more read more...in Ibiza are the stuff of legend, he commands a premium fee to spin in clubs around the world, he's in demand for his remixing skills, and he's launched a promising career as a recording artist. Frankie has a mansion, a beautiful wife, and a stepson, but there are a few other things that he also has -- a dangerous appetite for liquor and drugs, and a hearing problem that's getting worse. When Frankie's hearing begins to interfere with his work, his life and career go into a tailspin -- he becomes a sloppy, chemically imbalanced wreck, and his wife leaves him once the money begins to run out. Frankie is near the bottom of the barrel when he meets Penelope (Beatriz Batarda), a beautiful but hard-shelled woman who can stand up to Frankie's wild side while teaching him how to read lips and start life over again. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

Didn't think I'd like it but was pleasantly surprised, Paul Kaye is so convincing in his portrayal of Frankie Wilde, a DJ who's always off his head and is going deaf. Really well directed by Michael Dowse, it?s got everything from bitter sweet drama to surreal comedy. Top film!

The film soars on the talent of Paul Kaye's magnificent portrayal of a pop music icon's self abuse, descent into total deafness and rebirth ...

I enjoyed this more than I thought I would. The first half is balls out then it shows it's heart in the second half.

Along the same lines as Human Traffic but very very good

I'm English so I loved this about the famous DJ. Amazing triumph and a real look at the clubbing lifestyle.

I would guess that I am one of 3 people that I know who has seen this. I really don't think anyone would ever see this on their own.

This one is sinfully ridiculous...its just amazing. Plus the soundtrack is awesome. I love this film because it shows how the human spirit is able to overcome seemingly insurmountable odds. Just when one hits the very bottom, very hard... to feel useless, and become depressed is ... read moretruly the easy way out** Paul Kaye is breathtakingly powerful. This is actually based on the life of a real life person**

There's nothing like watching a guy hit rock bottom and then try to crawl back up again. Or as that heartless record industry weasel puts it, 'People love a good tragedy.' Especially one set to a good... Full Review

You may ... find the picture as undisciplined as Frankie's wild coif. I see the chaos, like the coif, to be tangled but pointed, an endearingly calculated mess. Full Review

The formula doesn't entirely stick, but Dowse's visual veracity towers over any narrative shortcomings Tong presents. Full Review

This is biopic as raving rumination. But it is also a surprisingly compassionate redemption story. Full Review

The movie works because of its heedless comic intensity; Kaye and his writer-director, Michael Dowse, chronicle the rise and fall of Frankie Wilde as other directors have dealt with emperors and kings. Full Review
