Title inspiration to Quentin Tarantino's war epic, Inglourious Bastards is a macaroni combat film with a Dirty Dozen flavor. Action packed, thrilling and lots of fun, this action classic is a fun ride from beginning to end. Though not perfect, this film is still a classic exampl... read moree of an 70's action flick done right. Enzo G. Castellari delivers a film that is similar to the Dirty Dozen, but that doesn't stop this film from being entertaining. This film is overlooked, and actually heard of it when Tarantino's film of the same name was released. Bare in mind that the two films only have the title in common. Anyhow, Castellari assembles some terrific talent here, Bo Svenson and Fred Williamson being the more famous names here. Inglourious Bastards is an action packed film with plenty of thrills and solidly built action scenes (considering that this is an Italian film) There are many memorable scenes including the train assault scene and the castle scene. The film for the most part succeeds on being quality entertainment, but there is of course a feeling that things could have been done better. Overall this is a good, entertaining action film that shouldn't be overlooked. This is one of the best action films of the late 70's and despite the flaws, its a fun viewing experience.

A group of military convicts escape behind enemy lines when their convoy is attacked, and when they accidentally kill an undercover commando unit they decide to take over their mission. The Dirty Dozen meets the A Team in this exploitation war flick that won't win any awards for ... read moresubtlety. The script is episodic, characters stereotypical and production value TV standard, but what it has is action in spades. It's like a typical boy's own war film with a bit of gratuitous nudity, swearing and blaxploitation thrown in, the latter provided by Fred Williamson (who you may recognise from From Dusk Til Dawn) playing the usual "I don't take no shit from nobody!" bad ass who is inevitably constantly riled by the usual redneck wise acre played by Peter Hooten, who is possibly the worst actor in the known universe. Add the least convincing romantic interlude you are likely to see and sophistication is clearly not this film's strong suit. If you like plenty of explosions, gunfire and men in Nazi uniforms being flung through the air left, right and centre, this fits the bill, but if you're interested just to see the "original" of Tarantino's film then don't bother. This has nothing to do with it.

    *5th greatest movie ever made
    *Best action film ever
*Best film by Enzo G. Castellari

Directed by Enzo G. Castellari and staring Bo Svenson, Peter Hooten and Fred Williamson

I really did like Quentin Tarantino take on inglorious bastards but somewhat just wasn't as good a... read mores this and despite it being really creative and cleaver to me it was some times really boring and dull. So this inglorious bastards and like me you will call it one of the top 3 best action films ever made. My top 3 of all time are Battle royal, fortress and this. If I had to pick this is my favourite action movie and my 5th favourite film.

Set in Europe during WWII, a group of American soldiers are in the process of being shipped off to military prison for a variety of infractions, ranging from desertion to murder. While they're being transported, a German artillery attack hits the convoy, killing the MPs and enabling four of the prisoners to escape. The group decides their best bet is to head to neutral Switzerland where they can avoid the fighting and prison. As they make their way to what they think will be freedom, they end up volunteering for a commando mission to steal a V2 warhead for the French Underground. Somehow, the team must sneak into the most heavily guarded base in German territory, steal the Nazi's most precious military hardware, and bring it back to the allies without getting arrested again by their own side.

The plot is very well done and doesn't really ever lack unlike Tarantino's witch like I said can be very boring.

100% for story it is amazing action filled and never leaves you bored

90% for acting and dubbing it sounds and looks great

90% for special effects there greatly done and a real awesome thing to watch

100% for characters you just have to love them. There funny, original, cleaver. Truly some of the best for an action film.

100% for everything else. Lol very highy body count

Truly don't know how much I can keep recommending it if you ever find it give it a go.

If you were wishing the Quentin Tarantino movie needed more people with 70's haircuts, a generic WWII plot, and some bad acting then watch this right away.

Yeah, it's ok, I'm a big fan of exploitation films, this ones pretty good but I've seen better, but I've also seen worse. I can see why QT would want to remake it, although It wouldn't have been my first choice.

You can sure tell it's a Quentin Tarantino movie -- Not a happy ending in any sense -- and nothing I would buy to add to my collection -- That said, and despite the gross parts of the movie, It was well done and I kindof enjoyed it -- Brad Pitt couold be a garbage collector and h... read moreis acting would be sterling -- Don't take the kids or don't go if you have a weak stomach --

A true gem from the 1970's exploitation industry, I vowed to watch this one first before going to see Tarantino's reworking. And honestly, I hope Tarantino's is good, because this one did set a bar for independant films back in the day, and if you liked it well, its because the "... read moreSpaghetti" crew were making it. XD Italians make good movies apparently, ie: Spaghetti westerns.

Anyways, Bo Svenson and Fred "The Hammer" Williamson lead a group of army prisoners on a flight to freedom, stumbling into one problem after the other as they try to make their way to Switzerland. But unfourtanently, they become entangled in special operation, with no way out unless they can steal the new V2 warhead technology from the Germans and escape before the Germans OR the Allies fnd them first.

Action packed, laced with 70's coolness and humor, don't be fooled by it's cheap makeup and simplicity, its actually well made, each character has their own story and the ending is a mix of fate, love and death and very abrupt, which was melancholic but effective to what is a very violent movie.

Its a simple movie, no thinking required, but I thought it was great viewing and some good acting, a good job done on a small budget with more skill and acting ability and action direction.

    Enjoy!

Quel maledetto treno blindato (aka Inglorious Bastards) has risen from the ranks of the rest of the obscure Italian made, American acted cheapies first of all because of Quentin Tarantino's reverence for the film and the fact that he plans to a remake of sorts under the same titl... read moree; second of all even though Tarantino's word is enough PR to get any obscure film to raise from the depths of the unknown into popular culture, it wouldn't work if the film wasn't any good. No problem there because this film is superb.

A group of soldiers are rounded up in a truck to be court-martialled. On the way to their destination, a German fighter jet opens fire on the Americans. Five soldiers get out and make a run for it. Now as fugitives they are on the run from both the Americans and the Germans as they battle their way to the Swiss border to freedom.

This film is a little known masterpiece that embodies the traits of a very pedestrian style war film. There is no technical war idioms which are common to the genre, the dialogue is cool and hip. This is basically the sort of war film that I would have made because unlike the typical other films in the genre, they are not really out to defend their country, only themselves. There is nothing to dislike about this film at all. Highly recommended.

A Peckinpah-ish variation on The Dirty Dozen, not terribly original but with well-executed World War II battle scenes, nudity and plenty of coarse talk. Full Review
