Igor (voice of Cusack) may have been born with a brilliant mind, but unfortunately everyone around him is too distracted by his pronounced hunchback to notice. Forced to serve as a lowly lab assistant to nefarious scientist Dr. Glickenstein (voice of Cleese), Igor longs for the day he will become a mad scientist, take top prize at the Evil Science Fair, and finally win the heart of village vixen Gretchen. Every year, mad scientists from all of the local villages converge on Malaria to compete in the annual Evil Science Fair -- an event that always features an abundance of death rays, earthquake generators, and man-eating plants. This year, Igor's village manages to take the top prize, too. But despite the fact that his lab receives a substantial government reward, the king confiscates the invention to be used in Malaria's defense program. Unlike the other Igors, this hunchbacked genius longs to change the world in ways his master could have never imagined, and when Dr. Glickenstein dies just two weeks before the latest Evil Science Fair, Igor seizes the opportunity to shine.Carefully covering up Dr. Glickenstein's death, Igor enlists the aid of angry brain-in-a-jar Brian and insecure re-animated rabbit Scamper to create an enormous, hideous creature of unparalleled strength. Trouble arises, however, when the creature turns out to be a female monster with a heart of gold. Unable to comprehend the concept of evil, the creature believes that Igor has named her "Eva," and longs for the day she will become a respected actress. With the Evil Science Fair fast drawing near, Igor has just two weeks to turn Eva the sweetheart into Evil the rampaging nightmare. Now, in order to win the competition, Igor works tirelessly to convince Eva that the Evil Science Fair is actually an audition for a twisted stage version of Annie, and that in order to win the lead role she must immerse herself in the evil character and never reveal her inner goodness. But as the "rehearsals" get underway, the nosy villagers come snooping around the castle, the malevolent Dr. Schadenfreude schemes to claim Eva as his own, and Igor slowly starts falling in love with his creation while realizing that life as a mad scientist may not be so glamorous after all. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

Good fun film that is really up my alley for the setting but it is a rip on many other film ideas, character wise its abit close to call really haha certain Tim Burton ideas are obvious. The look of the film is really cool, I love it, its dark n kooky and has a nice humour about ... read moreit.
The idea with the igor's being a kind of job for all hunchbacks and there are many evil scientists with igor's is a nice touch, the other characters like the king, Jaclyn, Eva etc.. aren't quite as good but Igor's two main siekicks Scamper and Brain are very funny and the best thing in the film. Buscemi is brilliant in his suicidal role, like a pissed off Bugs Bunny :)

The ending is way too soft n cuddly but its fun getting there, maybe it should of been made by Burton ;)

An original and entertaining film. Yeah it's not on the same intelligence levels as some Disney/Pixar films but this is extremely underrated. It teaches children to love who they are and have high goals no matter who they are. Some very funny moments and truly heartwarming. Extre... read moremely underrated.

A very different and funny take on the world of igor

I am really torn about this movie. Igor is a great story, terrifically funny, very tightly written and peopled with really engaging characters. But the end result is just so... ugly. The animation is so damn crude that it really takes you out of the story. Every single character ... read moreis horribly grotesque, everything is assymetrical and the lighting is all screwed up. It's hard to tell whether or not it ruins the entire movie though, since the dialogue is witty, the voice acting is spot-on and the quirky plot moves with great grace and skill. The premise of this movie really tickles me: a country peopled with evil scientists to the point where the entire economy is fuelled by mechanical monstrosities. Eddie Izzard, Steve Buscemi and John Cusack cracked me up, and the story consisted of funny scene after funny scene, all of which brought it forward to a rather ingenious culmination. I think I feel about this movie the way the characters kind of feel about each other: there's a lot to like and it is at its core really quite good. But I've seen rotting cabbage that was prettier than this.

This animated film is sort of a riff on the original Frankenstein film, but it adds its own elements to the mix. It is entertaining and has some amusing moments, but it's not what I would call hysterical. There's romance angle which works well here, and there are a few goo... read mored action sequences.
The only thing I liked on this film was the character Scamper, thanks to Steve Buscemi's solid voice work.

I don't understand why animations have to be this way. Villain, romance, sidekicks, slapstick, action etc. I know they want to be enjoyed by the whole family, but do they really need to cover all these bases? Igor is a pretty decent effort that hasn't come from one of the big stu... read moredios. It should be watched for the vocal work and a few witty one-liners. You get some nice additions, such as an immortal but suicidal rabbit and a climax that is a mix of Annie and robot wars. It's a fairly decent watch for 80 minutes but doesn't surpass, nor trail behind it's formulaic, mediocre brethren.

"Igor" may at some points seem corny, but it is stupendously clever and pleasantly dark. John Cusack gives a wonderful voice performance.

    "Pull the switch!"

Animations are almost everytime huge hits that bring back a lot of cash to the production companies. Metro Goldwyn Mayer's "Igor" wasn't one of 'em. Ok, it brought back its production costs but most of the so called target audiences avoided the film.

One thin... read moreg that comes in mind immedialtely is that its not suitable for the younger audiences. The dialogue is at times something that the kids woun't understand at all. Some of the scenes are also so scary that the kids will probably lose their good night of sleep.

But for a man like me, in his early thirties, "Igor" was a lot of fun and entertainment. I genuinely laughed a couple of times, mainly because of the hilarious sidekicks, Scamper (Steve Buscemi) and Brain (Sean Hayes). The lead character was a let down.

One of "Igor's" main faults was that it reminded me a lot of "Nightmare Before Christmas", Disney's "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" and one of my favourite video games, "MediEvil". For me this means lack of originality and imagination. Some might call this a tribute...

One thing that I liked, and this is a genuine tribute, was the whole thing with "Annie". A violent, monster that looks something close to Annie sings "Tomorrow". Nice.

One scene in particular was pretty funny, in a way. A bunch of blind kids sing before the end credits, "I Can See Clearly Now"... This was just a proof of "Igor's" humor. Not for kids but the more mature audience, who are into animation, will probably have a good time.

"It's better to be a good nobody, than an evil somebody."

I just didn't think there were anywhere close to enough laughs in this movie and that ultimately, as a comedy, is what it's got to deliver. Full Review

Igor, like the Frankenstein's monster at the centre of its tired plot, looks like something cobbled together out of used, very used, parts. Full Review
