If anything the things that went down in this film really surprised me. Who knew that the guy was going to make out with Cassandra? And then he doesn't get together with her? Crazy! But what really wins out in this film is the setting. I was never sure what period this was set in... read more

I think I enjoyed this movie more than most people did, but I don't see how anyone with good taste could not like this film.

I just found this old movie stub in my filing cabinet. This was a cute little fairy tale movie, but I don't remember it well enough to say anything too specific.

Ah, to have lived in such a simple time. This story was beautiful and sweet and the actors were brilliant.

This was was a good movie but I was hoping for a twist that would make everything turn out the way I wanted it to and it just didn't happen. So it really was good but I'm addicted to the chick flicks that turn out the way you see coming a mile away, which I usually like, and this... read more

Though I suppose the film couldn't rightly have made everyone happy without taking some huge fantastical leaps, it's all rather unsatisfying and depressing. Just not my cup of tea, I guess.

Cute little movie, probably one of the better performances I've seen from Henry Thomas in awhile.
The ending was rather unsatisfying. -

Very close to the book, but even withough reading it, you get the story. One of my favourite movies.
Critic Reviews
With eloquent dialogue but scant smoldering passions, the mushy machinations nicely nudge director Tim Fywell's gentle little film. Full Review
Dollops on the usual romantic, family and class conflicts with a very heavy ladle, which pretty much smothers the whimsical mood Fywell strains so hard to attain. Full Review
A refreshingly mature look at first love and life's often-rough transitions. Full Review
Never shies from indulging us and our desire for a gentle and generous world that doesn't slip into easy answers. Full Review
It's a pleasantly quirky love story with a wry sense of humor and standout performances from the youngish cast.
A rarity, a clear-eyed comedy.
Feels like a respectable BBC television drama rather than a movie.
The psychological darkness that underpins this film doesn't seem inappropriate to its wit and charm.
A compelling and emotionally rich coming-of-age drama. Full Review
