John Hughes and Chris Columbus repeat their best-selling formula from the first Home Alone film with this sequel. Once again Kevin McCallister's (Macaulay Culkin) family leave him behind, only now he ... read more read more...gets on a flight to New York instead of going with his family to Miami. Kevin manages to hail a cab and is delivered to the doorsteps of the Plaza Hotel, where, using his father's credit card, he rents out a suite and has the time of his life -- although a smarmy hotel clerk (Tim Curry) and bellboy (Rob Schneider) eye him with suspicion. But ingenious Kevin keeps them at bay, using the same tomfoolery he applied to his uncle in the first picture. He takes time out from his consumer debauch to chat with a friendly old toy-store magnate (Eddie Bracken) and pontificate to a homeless Pigeon Lady (Brenda Fricker) on the meaning of Christmas. But then he runs into his old enemies Harry (Joe Pesci) and Marv (Daniel Stern). When he finds out that they plan on robbing the old man's toy store on Christmas Eve, he mans the battle stations once again, complete with electric prods, flames of fire, and sundry blunt instruments. ~ Paul Brenner, Rovi

Lost in New York is its predecessor in a different setting. But the heartwarming charm is still there and its this and a few new tricks up Culkin's sleeve that save it.

I don't know what some of you sick people out there are talking about....This is the blueprint of how to make a sequal....You do the same thing (cause that's what brough you succes in the first place)....but you change the playingfield....and add some new characters. That's exacl... read morey what's has been done here....and it's done to perfection....just as good as the first one...if not better...now he's got 2 teams against him....the thiefs...and the people at the hotel....AND! he's in New York....something gotta give!

HOME ALONE 2: LOST IN NEW YORK isn't terrible. It's the same premise as the first movie (with almost 99% of the same pranks, too), except played in The Big Apple--which doesn't make it any better.

Follow up to the very popular Home Alone, Home Alone 2: Lost in New York is basically the same idea, but with a different twist. The main character, Kevin McCallister is stranded in New York and has to outwit the burglars from the first film. As far as sequels are concerned, this... read more sequel is just as good as the first, and that's rare. The cast of the first film returns in this sequel, and I think that's what makes this sequel work so well. Not only that, but the script is well written, and the gags are just as funny as the first film. The film doesn't do anything new, except that it changes the setting to New York. The film is very entertaining and manages to be funny and amusing. There's a good cast here, and this is a fun. I really enjoyed this film as much as the first, and though it doesn't anything too thrilling, this is still a fun comedy that the whole family will enjoy. As far as the humor is concerned, I felt that it was slightly better than the first. Screenwriter John Hughes gave a lot more emphasis on the humor and developed something a tad better. The first Home Alone was a good film as well, but this time around they managed to perfect the formula and create something more fun, and interesting. But both films are equally good, and I don't have a favorite. For a sequel, Home Alone 2: Lost in New York is better than your regular sequel, and manages to be a lot of fun, and entertaining for the family. Both films were great. I feel that the third doesn't really count because it was too dreadful. However, the first two Home Alone films are very good comedies.

Glad they didn't lose pace with this one. Just as funny as the first, if not funnier! Classic.

A childhood favourite and a classic!
  • June 12, 2011
Just as good as the first one, follows the exact same formula, just a different setting. If you liked the first you should like this just as much!
  • May 6, 2011
This sequel to the classic Home Alone, is fun and entertaining, especially for kids, but it's no where near as good as the first movie. For the most part it's overly slapstick and too silly. There are some sentimental scenes towards the end, though. Overall, it's pretty good, ... read morebut it could have been better.

Not better than the first part but funny. Pesci is great in both films.

Whatever steam Culkin gained in Home Alone was lost in this tepid sequel rehash.
