A very good slapstick family film backed up with good performances from the adult cast. Kulkin....not so much. I particularly enjoy the burglars enthusiasm in the film. By no means however one of the most brilliant christmas films out there. Over rated but christmas fun.

If you want some good old fashion family violence...look no further. This is brutal man. Those guys took the beating of a lifetime....And it's funny as hell. Great storytelling....very funny buildup to how they find out he's home alone...and how he finds out they are coming to br... read more

Kevin McCallister: This is my house, I have to defend it.
"A Family Comedy Without The Family."
I've never been the biggest fan of Home Alone. That isn't to say that I hate it, but it just isn't a great family movie by any stretch of the imagination. It is relatively entertain... read more -
November 9, 2011fb733768972From the ridiculousness to the very funny (yet highly unlikely) premise, "Home Alone" is a classic holiday film, although it's probability levels sky-rocket and give the film a pile of laughable scenes. The film is extremely predictable right from the very first scene, but the fa... read more

With nonstop laughs from pranks, antics, and ludicrousness, HOME ALONE is an original family comedy with the usual holiday spirit. Directed by Chris Columbus (who we later come to know from directing films like RENT and the first two HARRY POTTER films), this is somewhat a Chris... read more

Considering that I don't really like Macaulay Culkin, I'm surprised I even liked this. This was one of the films from my childhood and though it's funny, the film tends to drag on a bit too long, and at times I felt it was too sentimental. There's is plenty of laughs here and thi... read more

Critic Reviews
Pic boasts wonderful casting, with Culkin a delight as funny, resilient Kevin, and O'Hara bringing a snappy, zesty energy to the role of mom. Full Review
[A] surprisingly charming film, which may be the first Christmas black comedy for children. Full Review
This holiday contender from John Hughes is too crass, too loud and too violent to be added blithely to Christmas viewing traditions. But it is funny. Full Review
If Home Alone had limited itself to the things that might possibly happen to a forgotten 8-year-old, I think I would have liked it more. Full Review
Chris Columbus's junky, rambunctiously funny Home Alone is every kid's anarchical wish come true. Full Review
The movie devolves into an egregious Three Stooges painfest: We're meant to giggle and clap along with Kevin as the crooks get their heads singed with blowtorches and walk barefoot on glass. Full Review
A better director could have helped the film out considerably, even saved it... But even then, the script is tremendously weak, by Hughes's standards or anybody else's. Full Review
This is engaging and frequently hilarious. But the joke is stretched a bit too far. Full Review
