This brings you to a whole new level of crap C. Thomas Howell. What happened to your good roles in the Outsiders and Red Dawn? Now all you do is C movies based on blockbusters? War of the Worlds? The Posiedon Adventure? I couldn't make it through the first half hour! What is... read more funny is that enough people like this that someone somewhere felt it warrented a sequel! War of Crappy remakes II.

Kiss it C. Thomas Howell. 'Pologize.

At one point protagonist Howell blows his cookies, making this DVD partly instructional in nature since many viewers will likely do the same.

This interpretation of Wells' novel is actually more faithful to the source material than the classic 1953 film, in that the viewer spen... read moreds most of the film following Howell on odyssey toward his lost wife, adrift in the rural carnage created by the Martian invaders.

Which is also a major reason why this straight-to-DVD product is incredibly boring.

Bad acting plus bad script leads the viewer, desperately in need of anything interesting to happen, to start begging for the Martians to turn up and kill more Earthlings.

At the end of his sojourn, Howell finds his wife at the steps of the Lincoln Memorial just as the Martians start dying of diarrhea. Fin.

Giving this film airtime was the Sci-Fi Channel's way of saying "We acknowledge utter defeat in our search for competitive programming on Christmas Eve." Now go forth and enjoy my holiday gift to you: the ninety minutes of your life I have just prevented you from wasting. Merry Christmas.

Surprisingly really good. I find this remake to be a much better, though obviously low budget, version than the Tom Cruise remake. Obviously the original is the best imho.
