Where the original Gremlins was a horror film spiked with comedy, Gremlins 2: The New Batch is essentially a black comedy, with a couple of horrifying touches. The heroes from the first movie, Billy (Zach Galligan) and Kate (Phoebe Cates), happen to work for Clamp in his huge high-rise. They find the Mogwai within Clamp's building, but not before he has accidentally spawned legions of mischievous, lizard-like Gremlins. Soon, the Gremlins are wreaking havoc throughout the building. In the original film, their misdeeds were violent, but here they're also goofy and satirical. Director Joe Dante has filled the film with quick verbal and visual jokes, which, for many, makes Gremlins 2: The New Batch a satire and inversion of the typical horror film. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, Rovi

Gremlins was such a fun comedic monster flick. Obviously a sequel was in order. Although not as great as the original, Gremlins 2 has enough good elements to appeal to fans of the first film. The first Gremlins was such a great horror comedy, that it's almost hard to try and reca... read morepture the magic, fun and thrills of the first. Although not a great film, this sequel does a pretty good job at delivering what you'd expect. Director Joe Dante delivers a good sequel to his 1984 film. With this sequel, he makes the film somewhat more fun, and crazy than the first film. I thought it was a sequel worth watching, while not as great as the first film, Gremlins 2 delivers on the craziness. Joe Dante is a phenomenal director, and he delivers a film that is worth your time. The film tries a bit too hard at outdoing the first film. Even with that said, I still enjoyed this film, thought it was loads of fun from start to finish and still had everything that the first enjoyable. As far as horror comedies are concerned, Gremlins 2 is a welcome addition to the genre, and though not as great as the first, still manages to bring on good laughs and scares. I very much recommend this film and if you've enjoyed the first film, you're sure to enjoy this zany sequel. Gremlins 2 has its faults, but in the end it's mindless fun, which is what this film strives for. A must see film for horror comedy fans. The film may not be as memorable as the first, but is still provides you with a good time.

The Gremlins are back to terrorise a tower block in the city.

Actually a good sequel, big surprise indeed. The Gremlins look better, mean and the creativity with their design, especially the mutant Gremlins, is sooo cool. The same story again but in an office block this time, but it still works.

There's lots of visual gags here with the Gremlins, some sick some silly, but they still work, its the evil naughty 'Muppet' factor that seems to come through as the winner haha the possibility of a Muppet that swears or kills, scary and funny. Basically, a bigger budget has worked wonders here, a third could be awesome.

Gremlins 2 isn't as clever as the first one but is better then you'd probably expect. The writers abandon the idea of horror comedy and go on the lines of pure comedy. The New Batch is an example of how good a film that relies on gags can actually be.

It's sad to say that THE NEW BATCH was like any typical sequel: not as good as the original, but not quite disappointing. Yes, this was still hilarious, and Joe Dante learned, within the six years between the releases of the two films, how to make bigger, better "ewww" scenes, s... read moreuch as the scene where someone accidentally put a Gremlin through a paper shredder, or another scene when we see the grotesque-looking, slime-covered Gremlin eggs that look like dissected hearts with green food coloring spread throughout them. Yes, I'd have to say that this one, though funny, slightly lowered the "comedy" genre and somewhat upped the "horror genre, making a much different blend than the first. It was still enjoyable, though not as cute, sadly enough (the only cute thing here was Gizmo the Mogwai), and it is worth seeing. I would recommend renting it, though I found it quite hard to find--just saying.

One of the craziest movies to ever make it though the studio system.

Gremlins did not need a sequel, first of all, and second, the plot of this one is pretty much the same as the first. It is a fun movie, though, so it's not too bad.

definitely one of the best movie sequels of all time, the movie was a MAJOR improvement from the first movie. Not saying i hate the movie i enjoy it very much its popcorn entertainment. But this movie is way better its funnier the gremlins are ten times more off the wall and craz... read morey. I also enjoy the different type of gremlins that get mutated by the potions they drink from the lab that is run by Christopher lee (one of my favorite actors). The best of all the gremlins are the spider gremlin, the electric gremlin, the bat gremlin who does one of my favorite inside jokes the batman logo when it crashes through the wall, and my favorite the smart gremlin just because of how proper and elegant he is but he is still a pure evil villain
