This is a huge surprise. I have to say that I believe this might be the first Danish film I've ever seen in my life. I'll be looking for more. A beautiful mix of dark comedy and the seriously elevating power of love. In the end, this is less a comedy than it is a moving portr... read more

Best foreign movie around. Even though it was in another language, I laughed the whole time. Sven Sveat!

The second out of three films directed by Danish Anders Thomas Jensen and my second favourite after ADAM'S APPLES. Equally dark, equally funny, equally unlikeable-yet-somehow-likeable characters (this time its two butchers butchering acquaintances to keep the business open). The... read more

This black comedy is hilarious at times, but I had a strange feeling some humor was lost in translation.

I found myself laughing quite a bit, it's that nice dark humor. I bit gross in some parts, but still good.

This is a great dark comedy if you can handle reading subtitles. To many foreign films are overlooked in America. The story makes this particular one fantastic.
Critic Reviews
Gruesome as it may sound, Butchers is a likeable, well-made film and a genuine comedy. Full Review
You might not want to dine with this group, especially if they brought the meat. But it's OK to play with the knives a little. Full Review
Neither funny nor outrageous nor horrifying nor conventionally affecting. Full Review
You might say it's a case of too many ingredients spoiling the meal.
Should have been either darker or funnier. Or both. Full Review
Nither high flying enough for the art house nor low down enough for the cult-video shelf. Full Review
Jensen's tone is admirably dry, and the film offers its pleasures through small, writerly details. Full Review
It is Jensen's acute sense of life's cruel absurdities that allows him to illuminate how pain and hilarity can continually flow into each other. Full Review
