Nine of Sweden's leading actresses are brought together in this unconventional comedy-drama about a group of actresses awaiting a casting announcement. A major American film producer is looking for a ... read more read more...Swedish actress to play the title role in a big-budget remake of the classic Greta Garbo vehicle Queen Christina, and a handful of women who were in talks for the role wait with bated breath for the decision to be declared. Rebecca (Lena Endre), married to hunky matinee idol Ake (Mikael Persbrandt), is spending her 40th birthday waiting for word on the role. Alexandra (Suzanne Reuter) will be shooting a TV commercial, to be directed by Rolf (Brasse Brannstrom). Rolf used to be involved with Cecilia (Marie Richardson), who lately is nearly as well known for the fact that she's pregnant and not identifying the father as she is for her acting. Cecilia appears on a morning chat show with Georgina (Ewa Froling), who used to be in love with Gregor (Peter Haber), Alexandra's current husband. Stella (Helena Bergstrom) is a defiantly out lesbian who is having an affair with Karin (Marika Lagercrantz), the wife of film director Magnus (Rolf Lassgard). Stella also happens to be starring in Magnus' latest project, along with Ake and Molly (Pernilla August). Meanwhile, Git (Gunilla Roor) is in a session with her analyst, trying to come to terms with her feelings about her work, and Evior (Stina Ekblad) is in rehearsal for a musical, and reaching the regrettable conclusion that she can neither dance nor sing. In keeping with the film's tangled onscreen relationships, Helena Bergstrom, who plays a lesbian sleeping with her director's wife, is married to Colin Nutley, Gossip's writer and director. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

The great concept of GOSSIP nearly got killed by a weak execution, poor performances and a juvenile, lightweight plot that tries to pass as dense. Nevertheless, it doesn't fail completely. I may be biased, but James Marsden's performance as evil Derrick Webb is quite amazing. Add... read more an impressive soundtrack by Graeme Revell and an incredible twist ending, and you almost forget everything this flawed little film did wrong. Almost.

Three students spread a rumour to see how fast it travels and how much it changes but what starts as a simple little lie escalates to a full blown witch hunt as the rumour is turning into a criminal act and then lies of llies are told so who are you going to trust and believe A nice little thriller with a lot of potential but we'll just have to stick with this worth a watch!!
  • August 12, 2007
This slick looking but vacuous teen film is populated by rendy, self-obsessed youth and obviously fancied itself as another Cruel Intentions.
  • July 15, 2007
College flcik about how rumours can ruin lives.
  • July 14, 2007
Some college friends deliberately start a false rumour that snowballs out of control, resulting in a classmate being arrested for rape. Decent enough thriller that stretches believability a little come the inevitable twist ending, but not bad.

    dull
  • November 7, 2006
    Fantastically evil...
  • February 8, 2009
Despite its flaws, an interesting look into the subject of gossip and rumor-mongering.
  • March 26, 2007
Entertaining is a trashy sort of way. Gossip is a cynical, superficial and Cruel Intention-esque teen movie that bears half an intelligent script and a quality set design. You'll enjoy it and hate yourself for it.

This movie shows how important what you say affects people, it could teach us all a valuable lesson nonetheless it is a great movie!

A taut second half in which the plot turns back on itself in some surprising twists makes up for the lethargic first half. Full Review

A sense of unreality permeates the movie, which allows for some far-fetched plot turns. Far-fetched is OK. Close-fetched thrillers aren't worth watching. Full Review

Dumb and irritating.

With its hunks and dolls masquerading as characters, its contrived and sleazy plot twists and tawdry sex, Gossip owes less to any film genre than to TV soap operas.
