Though the film parodies many standard elements and characterizations present in Hong Kong films, viewers need not be familiar with these staples to enjoy the film's absurd and razor sharp humor. Chiau plays the character of the overwhelmingly despicable and weasely God of Cookery to the hilt, gaining power-mad pleasure by humiliating and embarrassing any and all whose culinary skills he sees as lesser (or greater for that matter) than his own, until his inevitable fall from grace after a shady business deal. Playing the role of a pathetic has-been with equal zeal, Chiau actually manages to mold the previous monster into a sympathetic has-been, making his efforts to regain his rightful title an amusing and hilarious uphill battle. The final exhilarating culinary face-off -- in which he struggles against his former protégé turned backstabbing adversary -- must be seen to be believed, becoming a hyper-stylized battle in which egos flare and spatulas fly. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

This is how iron chef should be done.

What Stephen Chow got up to before the rest of the world discovered him. Chow directs and stars as The God of Cookery, exposed as a fraud, who then has to claw his way back from the bottom. Very very silly, stupid even, with heart.

Hilarious and weird Chow flick. Love those pissing beef balls and the monks kick ass... again and again.

One of my favorite Stephen Chow movies. The best part is Turkey singing that one song.

Stephen Chow wrote, directed, and stars in God of Cookery. The movie is very funny, although it's mostly gutter humor it delivers laughs. The directing was well done, though frantic at times. The camera angles help to intensify certain scenes. The light was good and the cast ... read morewas solid. The story is about a former god of cookery who is dethroned and must get back to the top. Of course coming from Hong Kong, there are some kung fu fights. It really was fun to watch this movie, although closer to the end I recommend not taking any mind altering drugs as I felt I was on an acid trip when the BBQ pork rice was presented to the Princess of Tasting. Rent it, buy it, or just stream it I have to say it was worth the watch.

A very funny movie. I love the structure of Stephen Chow's movies which seem to be always throwing new things at you. This movie makes you hungry and teaches the importance of hitting your opponent with a folding chair during a competitive cook-off. Four and a half stars.

The plot is predicable, but the stuff that happens in the between isn't! This movie is hilarious, and it plays on many cliches seen in comics and movies. I throughly enjoyed this film, and I think this will become one of my favorite comedies of all time.

Another brilliant comedy from director/actor Stephen Chow. A spoof of the God of Gamblers movies, as well as iron Chef. Throw in Stephen Chow's love for everything kung fu and Saholin and you've got quite an entertaining movie here,

BAM!!! Chow takes on the seedy underworld of iron chef!!! this movie was fucking hilarious. it's a bit hard to find, but it's worth the effort to hunt it down. bettle than shaolin soccer and kung fu hustle anyday.

Early Stephen Chow movie where the subtitles move at the speed of light. This movie isn't as good as Hustle or Shoalin, but its still really good. I love Chow's directing, he take anything and adds a martial art element to make it cook (no pun intended). If you love other Stephen... read more Chow films, you'll love God of Cookery.

While it lacks the focus and polish of his more recent (and wildly popular) Shaolin Soccer, it is a mostly funny piece that only occasionally overstays its welcome Full Review
