A teenage boy is forced to dive into the murky waters of adolescence in this comedy-drama from Argentine filmmaker Alexis Dos Santos. Things have hardly been happy at home since Lucas's parent's split up over his father's constant infidelity, and matters are hardly any more comfortable elsewhere. Lucas is obsessed with the changes in his body, he's trying to get the garage band he's formed with his buddies off the ground, and he can think of little besides sex. Lucas's best friend is a similarly confused adolescent, Nacho (Nahuel Viale); together they pass the time by hanging out and playing pranks on others, though Lucas tries not to think about his growing attraction to Nacho. Lucas's sexual confusion rises to a new level when he and Nacho strike up a friendship with Andrea (Ines Efron), the slightly geeky new girl at school; when Lucas's dad leaves him alone to watch over his apartment one weekend, he invites Nacho and Andrea over for the evening, which leads to a long night of sniffing glue and rudimentary making out. Glue (aka Glue: Historia Adolescente En Medio De La Nada) received its North American premiere at the 2006 Toronto Film Festival. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

Alexis dos Santos is side by side with Gus Van Sant and Lucrecia Martel in portraying adolescence in a realistic and, well, arty way.

Some similarities to Famous and the Dead (by Esmir Filho), and a few with Duck Season (by Fernando Eimbcke) and Machuca (by Andres Wood).

Family scenes remind: La ciénaga and La Mujer sin Cabeza (by Lucrecia Martel) and Home by Ursula Meier.
Chocolate milk scene reminds: Show me Love, by Lukas Moodysson.

    Great soundtrack by Violent Femmes.

Ponderous, dreary coming-of-age / discovery of sexuality flick that has an occasional sequence worthy of Gus Van Sant, but mostly bores. The performances are fine but the plot meanders worthlessly (and not especially realistically) and some of the scenes have the tinge of wish-fu... read morelfilment. Some hypnotic editing and some inspired cinematography unfortunately don't make Glue any less of a chore.

A charming coming-of-age drama about awkwardness and the confusions of adolescence. It realistically conveys the the raw emotions and sexual antics of three bored teenage friends, from the isolated desert town of Patagonia, Argentina. Director Alexis Dos Santos brilliant feature ... read moredebut. Lucas, who is played superbly by Nahuel Perez Biscayart is a skinny, androgynous 15-years-old who hangs out most of the day with his hunky best friend Nacho, well played by Nahuel Viale and Andrea their bespectacled mousey girl pal, nicely played by Ines Efron. Lucas is gay and has a big crush on Nacho, but then there's Andrea who also fancies Nacho. One day Lucas invites Nacho to his estranged father apartment , they begin sniffling glue and watching porn videos, both boys are about discover something important about their sexuality. When they in a totally "high state" begin to fool around with each other, not knowing how small incidents like this can have life-changing results. At a party the friends Lucas, Nacho and Andrea get drunk, and in a restroom have a threesome, further complicating the situation. This a sweet non-judgmental film. In Spanish. Highly Recommended.

Finally, a coming-of-age film that has the courage to present the terrors and fears of self-discovery in a thoughtful, seemingly incoherent fashion, comes to the screen. Full Review
