This movie was the beginning of the surfing movie trend of the 60s, I think, and a classic teen film. It's not a great movie, but I liked it anyway.

a real bit of you-had-to-have-been-there americana...the earnest yet perky late sandra dee (doris day, only younger), old school hunky-w/o-the-steroids james darren, and cliff robertson as the big kahuna (yep, this is where that expression enters the american lexicon, baby!), tog... read more

Good ol' fashion presque-60s superfun. You have to love Sandra Dee, she's the absolute ultimate. It's not an amazing movie but it's a classic. Apparently it's the film the kick started the surf movie craze. What's the best part in the film is twice when James Darren, or "Moondogg... read more

This is a 1960s beach classic. This is the movie that really ushered in the beach movies of the 1960s and it's actually not too bad. Sandra Dee does a great job in the role, although everything in the movie is sensationalized, of course. The characters really aren't believable... read more

The best of all the Gidget movies, and the television series. Sandra Dee is perfectly cast as the tomboyish teenager. Obviously, the movie is not deep or significant, but it is cute fun. It also started the big trend of beach movies, so popular in the 1960's.

*blink* Goodness. A surfer movie. Haven't seen many of those, actually. I think my parents generally shielded me from them, and this must be why. This movie had like... three seconds of anything actually interesting to watch. The rest of the time I amused myself by laughing at th... read more

This is one of my favorite films. It is a typical beach movie for the time, but I just love Sandra Dee.

The first beach film of its kind and one of my all-time favorites. Sandra Dee is probably the best Gidget of the two girls that followed her. It's a cute fluffy movie, not meant to be taken seriously. Enjoyable.
Critic Reviews
Look her, she's Sandra Dee! Innocent enough '50s romantic comedy doings.
the clueless parents provide that Golden Age anchor to the piece that rings disquieting in the face of all the real wolves their Gidget is facing alone in the pathless wood. Full Review
A must-see artifact and lots of fun.
