An interesting hybrid of popular film genres, Ghost showcases the talents of its entire cast. While out on the town one evening, New York couple Sam (Patrick Swayze) and Molly (Demi Moore) are confron... read more read more...ted by a mugger. After submitting to his demands, Sam is murdered anyway. He then finds himself a disembodied spirit, invisible to the living world, wandering without hope until he finds a spiteful spirit aboard the subway (Vincent Schiavelli) who gives him some helpful pointers on how to co-exist. Soon Sam comes back into contact with those he knew in life, and he begins to learn piece-by-piece of his close friend and co-worker Carl's (Tony Goldwyn) embezzling plot which caused his death; the apparent mugging was, in fact, a premeditated murder. In the meantime, Carl has designs on Molly, and Sam is determined to extract revenge. He contacts a psychic (Whoopi Goldberg), and together, the two set out to serve justice and stop the maniacal Carl from getting to Molly. Blending comedy, romance, action, and horror, Ghost was a box-office smash and managed to garner five Academy Award nominations, including "Best Picture," "Best Supporting Actress" (Goldberg), "Best Original Screenplay," "Best Editing," and "Best Score"; Goldberg won her first Oscar. ~ Jeremy Beday, Rovi

Using old school clichés, and turning it around; screenwriter Bruce Joel Ruben crafts a memorable and quite good romance film. Ghost is a prime example of using clichés to create something refreshing in the process. Ghost is a very entertaining film, though not perfect, it defini... read moretely is a memorable film with some good performances. The special effects are great too, and elevate the film so much. I enjoyed this film, and normally I don't like romance films, but I did enjoy Ghost. The cast good, the story was entertaining and the film was engaging. The film is a surprising change of direction for Jerry Zucker, who's made a career of spoof films. The film shows that he's able to direct in a different genre. Ghost surprised me because I didn't think I would enjoy it that much. However, I did. The films cast make it work, and I really enjoyed the chemistry that Demi Moore and Patrick Swayze had. What separates Ghost from other romance films is that it's not overly cheesy like countless other romance films. The film has the perfect balance of romance and drama. There is one thing that does puzzle me, I don't think that Whoopi Goldberg was that great to deserve a statue. She was good and all, but I'm sure there were much more deserving performances to merit the Oscar that Goldberg won. Ghost is a good film, smartly crafted, entertaining and fun. I enjoyed this, and thought it was one of the better romance films out. However, this isn't Casablanca. Still worth seeing.

Ghost will always have a special place in my heart. The story was possibly one of the best of the 90s, it was such a great movie, and Goldberg deserved an Oscar. It was an actual good romance film. It moved me to tears, and im actually a tough guy. But what I really love is t... read morehe friendship between Swayze and Goldberg, and him trying to learn how to show Demi Moore he is there with them. Only thing bad was some cheesy romance scenes, but it still lives to be one of my favorite movies.

Let me be clear: this is not the sort of thing I really enjoy or watch very often, but I saw this as a kid and it has just stuck with me for some reason over the years. I'm probably gonna lose some of my credibility for this, but I can't help but get caught up in this romantic fa... read morentasy.

This film, despite being really cheesy and schmaltxy, has some good performances and some really great sequences too. It's got some good gags as well. I think they kinda wussed out on the big scene where Sam takes over Oda Mae's body to kiss Molly (the screen shows Molly and Sam instead of the two women kissing-which is what is happening 'in reality'), but that's just a little gripe.

I like this, even though I don't like to admit it. Something about the Righteous Brothers and an ethereal Patrick Swayze just really gets to me...god I need help...

    A classic!

Sam: "I love you Molly, I've always loved you."
    Molly: "Ditto".

It's amazing how one little word can let the one your with know that you love them. Especially if they're no longer alieve. That is very much true in this beautiful story about good and evil, and most importantly ... read morelove. Patrick Swayze gives us all a very moving performance in showing that there is an afterlife. Demi Moore plays Swayze's girlfriend who wants to truely believe that even though her boyfriend, Sam (Patrick Swayze) is no longer alieve he is still on earth in spirit, and Whoopi Goldberg portrays the comedic but yet in some ways serious psychic who helps Sam (Patrick Swayze), protect his girlfriend Molly Jensen (Demi Moore) from being murdered by Willie Lopez (Rick Aviles). This movie has a wonderful & glorious message about pure beauty and love. It also made the entire world fall in love with The Righteous Brothers "Unchained Melody". Patrick Swayze will be remembered forever and his performance in Ghost will never be forgotten. Ditto :) Patrick Swayze forever!!! :) My one true celeb crush! :) :) :)

Even today this film manages to move me, so romantic and funny - and Whoopi Goldberg steals the show with her priceless performance, she is amazing and makes me laugh loud every time.

Ghost is not at all scary.

Patrick Swayze died today, so I'm rating/reviewing this, which I always considered to be an excellent chick flick, and unique. So I love this movie, got a problem with that?
