Robbed of his short-term memory after a tragic accident, an undergrad law student with a once-promising future instead finds fame as a masked wrestler with some seriously impressive moves. He passed the bar a full year before he was set to graduate, and all signs indicate that he'll soon become a high-powered lawyer. Just when it seemed that Ryoichi's future couldn't get any brighter, however, a serious accident leaves him with no short-term memory. Unable to learn anything new, Ryoichi joins his university wrestling team and begins taking diligent notes at every practice session. It doesn't take long for Ryoichi to learn that he's a natural in the ring, and before long he's donning a lizard mask and green tights while moonlighting as a masked wrestler. The only way Ryoichi can remember his exploits from the previous night is by leaving notes and photos for himself to find in the morning, but if that's what it takes to live the dream he's more than willing to improvise. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

The feel good movie of the fucking decade. A guy with short-time memory who takes polaroids and writes notes to remember stuff, memento style, becomes an amateur wrestler. Yes, that's the premise of the movie, and yet i was cheering at the end like a fool. Starts a bit slow, and ... read morethe movie goes to a bunch of familiar places, it's the usual underdog/sports story-go-and-beat-the-odds, but because the characters are well written, and the performances strong, i didn't mind seeing some cliches here and there.

Sure, the writting is nothing "hard hitting" but the exploration it makes of memory, human relations and following your dreams is genuine and engaging. Not every "human drama" movie has to be a fucking Fassbinder movie, and not every movie has to be something totally "new and different" to tell a good story. While something like Memento wanted to explore the loss of memory thing as a thriller Gachi Boy goes more for the human side. It will make you feel good, and for all the right reasons.
