Supernatural Korean horror with an interesting premise about a possessed wig which starts to bring about unusual physical and personality changes to its new wearer who's suffering from terminal cancer. It's all nice and elegantly styled but the film moves too slowly during the mi... read moreddle parts and too much drama is added to the mix. It gets off to a good start with some genuinely creepy moments and a couple of well mounted scares, but it makes little effort to pack in anymore effectively eerie moments during the rest of the film. Surprisingly there a couple of quite nasty violent moments that'll make your eyes wince. The plot also throws in an unexpected twist at the end that's worth waiting for, but some of the editiing throughout could have been better handled as it feels a bit rushed, especially during the flashback sequences. It's a film that's better than many other supernatural asian horrors out there but it's not quite up with the best of them, it had potential though.

    "A wig?"

A woman buys a wig for her younger sister, who is tentatively recovering from disease and lost her hair during the treatment. The younger sister begins to improve remarkably, but her behavior also becomes odd and perhaps even dangerous.

The Wig is precisely as scary a... read mores you'd expect a movie about a haunted wig to be. It's like the filmmakers themselves knew how lame their premise was and that it was going to be nearly impossible to make this frightening, so they only bothered to make three or four half-hearted attempts at scares before calling it a day. I'm an avowed fan of Asian horror movies, but even I have to admit that The Wig is scraping the absolute bottom of the barrel.

I'll admit that the movie does pick up speed in the final 35 minutes or so (there is one bloody and creepy scene in a hospital that is probably the only memorable part of the whole flick), but it's still hard to forget that you're watching a movie about a bundle of spooky hair. The Wig is not only kinda bad, but it is also mostly boring and very unnecessary.

Not as stupid as it sounds from the title, but not exactly a straight up horror either. Also features one of the few male avenging ghosts I've seen in modern Asian supernatural films.

For a movie about a haunted hair-piece, The Wig sure does spring a pleasant surprise

After so many Asian horror films built around the pale ghost girl with long black hair, didn't mind about the idea of the haunted wig just to change things around but it was to be expected for the plot to be similar to other Asian ghost stories. The film is predictable & not so ori... read moreginal but it deliver few good scares with jump of your seat moments & some effective gruesome scenes. The problem is that the film drags in parts & the unoriginal, silly conclusion which i seen before with these type of films of this genre.

I honestly thought that this would scare the crap out of me but it turned out to be a bore. I particularly didn't like the twist towards the end of the film. Shots of the hairpiece hanging on the wall creeped me out a bit but to see it gliding on the floor was laughable.

Just as stupid as the description sounds.I watched about half the movie waiting for something interesting to happen but I just couldn't take it anymore & had to turn it off

...I'd prefer a turd hat, frankly.

Wigs are creepy; everyone knows that (case-in-point: Tyra Banks). However, long, straight black wigs are scary, especially when they're draped over one's face (see Ringu/The Ring). So what better antagonist for a horror film tha... read moren a long, straight black wig? Hmmm...I can't think of any, can you? (Aside from Tyra Banks.) No? Apparently, neither can the educated men behind writer-director Won Shin-yeon's 2005 industry debut, The Wig, a conventional Korean horror-thriller whose villain is, yes...a wig.

But, before you renounce this film for being so silly (which will happen sooner or later anyway), know that there's a perfect explanation behind the murderous becoming of the film's bad guy/girl/hair...well, sort of (actually, not really). Su-hyeon (Chae Min-seo) is battling leukemia and has lost all of her hair to failed chemotherapy sessions. Her older sister, Ji-hyeon (Yu Seon), discharges her from the hospital in which she was being treated and gives to her a gift: a long, straight black wig that, unbeknownst to either of the girls, was sewn from the hair of a suicide victim who haunts anyone who wears it.

Soon before long, Su-hyeon is making inexplicable progress in health -- she even starts to grow her own hair back -- and attempting to create a happy life for herself (mostly by seducing her sister's ex-boyfriend, whom Ji-hyeon had plans to marry). Yet, with her rejuvenated wellbeing comes terrifying, violent hallucinations (you know, severed heads in toilets, ghosts in mirrors; the usual) and a frightening dependence on the wig -- she ages faster and reverts to sickness without it. And she's not the only one who suffers the wig's heinous spell; her sister begins seeing gruesome things as well, which eventually culminate in a bloodletting rage.

Won Shin-yeon certainly never wishes for viewers to feel as though they have a firm grip on his film, as its structure is as confusing as its motive and its story more crowded than a nerd's backpack -- character development is heavily misinterpreted here to include meddlesome backstories (one about Su and Ji's dead parents, the other explaining why Su-hyeon is a mute) and an irritating love-triangle -- and twistier than an Indian burn (particularly the last half-hour, in which Won attempts to make his movie meaningful, but fails). Nonetheless, there are scenes that are sure to make you jump (although they're foreseeable and wouldn't be that daunting if it weren't for the instantaneous jolt of several dozen decibels), as well as some beautiful shots of South Korea that will have you wishing Shin-yeon's focus were on filmscape rather than shock-fright. But it's not. And the result isn't friendly, it's just plain bad.

This was my first J-horror movie that I seen. Once you get over reading the subtitles it gets pretty good. Freaky twists and turns that they make you want to turn it off.
