On his way home from work to a surprise birthday party Carol is throwing, he accidentally switches briefcases with a Russian mobster. He opens the suitcase at a local bar and discovers five million dollars inside. He rushes home and tries to arrange a flight to Barcelona for Carol and him so they can take the money and run. Detective Sergeant Genero (Armand Assante) shows up later; he saw Henry at the bar and is suspicious of his actions. The Perkins, along with their friends Vic and Gina Johnson (Christopher McDonald and Alex Meneses), concoct an elaborate plan to fool the detective, which is only complicated by Carol getting sloppy drunk, the arrival of a homicide detective (Kevin Sussman), a famous gallery owner (Rebecca Wisocky), Henry's boss (Robert Loggia), a frustrated standup comic cabbie (Guy Torry), two more identical briefcases, and the party guests. The comic action reaches a climax in a standoff with Mafia kingpin Mr. Big (Zoltan Butuc). ~ Michael Buening, Rovi

    Could be much better...

I watched a bit of it and it was so boring that I didn't felt like watching the rest.

Really bad movie. The acting was horrible, and it just annoyed me.

A colossal bore, which coincidentally describes 90 percent of every movie Chevy Chase ever did. You take away the National Lampoons movies, Caddyshack and his SNL work and Chevy has had one pathetic career. Meant to be funny but comes across as cheesy and unfunny. Armand Assante ... read moreis a good bad guy but not in this mess. Not worth a .50 rental at Blockbuster. Thanks for wasting my two quarters Chevy.

3 of 5 stars for the mature comedy movie Funny Money. Surprising to see Chevy Chase as a mature man when I remember him as a young man on SNL. The comedy in this movie is mostly verbal and situational rather than comedy movements (of which Chase is so well known). The plot is rat... read moreher simple: an accidential exchange of identical briefcases leaves Chase with $$$$$$ rather than a sandwitch. Alot of comedy about this discovery between Chase, his wife and some family friends. More comedy about those who lost the money and their search to find it. And when the two groups find each other ... oh yeah, funny.

Again, this is not a slap-stick comedy. It is well written with great dialog, situations and events. This is an easy on the brain movie and is entertaining. I do recommend it.

This was just like a Chevy comedy. Just ok. I didn't like how the characters got deeper and deeper into a mess, made me restless! The part where the detective was liking the statue's blue butt was funny. Then ending was good.

Been a while since I saw another Chevy Chase movie and I must say this film is fun to watch. It's not overly funny or hilarious but it has its charm.

Funny but not that incredible by any means. Starts out kind of slow but gets a lot better. Worth watching really.

An old-fashioned screwball farce with a few amusing moments, just not enough of them.

I can imagine how this script played funny on stage, given the right cast. However, it just never seems to work on the movie (or rather television) screen. Full Review

Perfectly serviceable middle of the road comedy.

The cast is uniformly pretty terrible, playing what are already broad situations over the top. Full Review
