Based on the popular novel by V. C. Andrews, Flowers in the Attic centers on such chancy topics as incest and misguided religiosity. When their father is killed, teenagers Cathy (Kristy Swanson) and C... read more read more...hris (Jeb Stuart Adams), together with their preteen siblings Cory (Ben Ganger) and Carrie (Lindsay Parker), are put in the care of their religious-zealot grandmother (Louise Fletcher). Grandma has never approved of the wanton lifestyle of the kids' mother Corinne (Victoria Tennant), and she has no intention of extending her love to the children. Even worse, Corinne is anxious to win back the love of her estranged father, who, knowing that Corinne and her late husband were cousins and thus incestuously linked, would never approve of any children from this union. Thus, the four children are locked in their grandmother's attic, far from the view of their unforgiving grandfather. How the kids cope with their imprisonment is the heart of the film. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

Based on the Virginia Andrews novel but without the really juicy bits, this is still very compulsive viewing if only for the fact that Kristy Swanson is in it.

Weird and creepy and I dislike the bitch granny, then four innocence kids' mother.

Scarred me for life when i saw it on TV as a kid.

Pretty nice film. Wasn't much of a horror movie but was certainly filled with a good amount of thrill and suspense. I will admit that it had a somewhat psychological scare to it. I mean, just imagine being that age and going through that ordeal. It was indeed a very dramatic movi... read moree but the thrill and suspense out weighted it still. Ok acting from the Grandmother, Mother and the children as well. The ending was sad but I see it as a great victory for the main characters at least. It was in fact entertaining in the end though. Full of mystery, thrill and suspense. Never a dull moment at all. I was glued to the screen wondering what was to happen next. So in my opinion, that will do.

This movie feels like a really bad TV movie. I kept thinking the brother and sister were going to sleep together because he keeps wanting to talk to her while she is bathing and even helps wash her back at times, granted four of them are kept locked in one room for over a year.

The most effed up movie EVER.

I don't think this movie will ever be remade for that very reason.

everyone knows flowers in the attic is fucked up...

20 years and many advances in film later...it's still fucked up.

The acting may not be great (and in Tennet's case it actually works) but the story is so damn disturbing that you can't help but be engaged. The slow zoom out to the 4 graves is pretty genius.

THE BOOK WAS VERY GOOD, AND THE MOVIE PRETTY MUCH LIVED UP TO MY EXPECTATIONS. I THINK THIS IS ONE OF V.C. ANDREWS BEST WORKS. IT SHOWS HOW GREED AND LEAD A PERSON TO DO ALMOST ANYTHING EVEN LEAVE THEIR CHILDREN IN AN ATTIC FOR YEARS.

The book was way better. I don't like how they changed the characters around...they made the mom really evil.
