Chevy Chase can do better, but at least FLETCH is not as predictable as I expected it to be. It's a smart, funny action-comedy that isn't quite a classic, but it sure is a good, enjoyable laugh-fest. There's clearly much to love here, especially the scene with the "defenseless b... read more

Back in '85 when Chevy Chase was somewhat popular with folks. Looking back he's a bigger clown. Serviceable investigation movie. His disguises are awesome but people should've seen it was him. The basketball player scene was a ripoff because it was only a daydream on TV. The weak... read more

Fletch/Chevy Chase is taking down the bad guys with his brand of cheese and wit. It's funny.

I'm sorry...Chevy Chase is not funny. He was pretty good here...but his face is still there...very chilled out movie.

Fletch is the perfect example of a Chevy Chase movie. For every joke that works, there are about 50 that don't - and even those that work aren't exactly laugh-out-loud funny.
I think everyone can agree his modern career (pretty much the last two decades) is just sad. But even ... read more -

A classic comedy with Chevy Chase playing a reporter who investigates a millionnaire's offer to kill him. Chevy is perfect in roles like these, while still on blow and actually taking good, funny parts. What happened? Shoot me, but I still like the sequel a bit better.
Critic Reviews
Michael Ritchie's 1985 mystery comedy has the pleasant, modest feel of a Fox B picture from the 30s. Full Review
Whenever the move threatens to work, there's Chevy Chase with his monotone, deadpan cynicism, distancing himself from the material. Full Review
A lightweight, breezy experience that, by never pretending to be anything more than what it is, disarms criticism. Full Review
What truly holds Fletch together isn't the somewhat off-putting Chase--whose screen presence was always defined by a love-it-or-hate it smugness--but his time-tested collaborators: screenwriter Bergma... Full Review
It's not all about wacky disguises and goofy aliases. At its core, the film is a top notch mystery thriller. Full Review
Fast-paced and witty, this is Chase's best solo venture to date, and will hold almost anyone's attention for its well-edited 98 minutes. Full Review
Twenty-two years later, I get all the jokes, but I remain only pleasantly amused, nothing more, nothing less Full Review
A quick, smart, slick piece of comedy filmmaking that features a once-great comedian at the very top of his game. Full Review
This could be Bob Hope material c1942 and Chase does acquit himself well (though with cool reserve) in the gags-to-plot transitions. What dulls the enterprise is that Ritchie so keeps his distance fro... Full Review
