A yuppie and a hippie are the offbeat pairing of this character comedy in the tradition of earlier mismatched buddy films such as Midnight Run (1988). Buckner finds Huey's lifestyle and beliefs irresponsible. Once the two are bound for their Pacific Northwest destination, Huey begins to play psychological mind games with the straight-arrow Buckner, convincing him that he's tripping on hallucinogenic drugs, getting him drunk, and setting him up with a hooker named Sparkle (Kathleen York). Huey trades places with his captor and soon a game of cat-and-mouse is afoot as the agent pursues the one-time radical, with surprising revelations abounding regarding Buckner's childhood and Huey's motivations for allowing himself to be captured. Flashback also stars Carol Kane, Cliff De Young, Richard Masur, Michael McKean, and Paul Dooley. ~ Karl Williams, Rovi

No cliche is left unturned in this film-making by numbers chalk and cheese buddy movie. Not completely dreadful, but you know exactly what's going to happen, life lesson by life lesson, every step of the way to the inevitable conclusion.

Dennis Hopper! I really could leave the review at that but I must say that this movie is fun as hell to watch. Sutherland and Hopper work very well together, and an appearance by Carol Kane makes the film that much better.
The plot alone is worth watching the movie! A former chi... read moreld-hippie turned FBI agent is forced to look at his past when he is put in charge of escorting a 60's counterculture icon across state lines to authorities in Washington.
Great movie, great acting! Also look for Richard Masur and Michael McKean who steal a bit of the spotlight from the the two leads, they are hilarious.
Flashback showcases Dennis Hopper's talent very nicely and the film makes me miss him that much more. See this movie, now!

Underrated film that had good acting, good story, some really funny moments. Hopper was great as always.

I loved this movie so much when I was a kid. I convinced my parents to let me watch it, regardless of the R rating, because they knew how much I liked Kiefer Sutherland. I said I was studying, to better my acting chops. Haha.

Sutherland and Hopper make one of the funniest buddy films I have seen in a very long time. Love their interactions.

A lot more entertaining than first looks would indicate. Plus it's always fun to laugh at the 1980s. Full Review
