Involved in a 12-year relationship with married Broadway theater director George (Austin Pendleton), Bella craves marriage and children. On a blind date set up by her mother, Bella meets Bruno, a divorced cabbie and fledgling novelist with two young children. Meanwhile, Paul meets ready-and-willing widow Emily (Louise Lasser), while Seymour shacks up with Wanda (Valerie Geffner), a stripper with a master's degree. This film was shown in competition at the 2000 Cannes Film Festival. ~ Jonathan Crow, Rovi

Steven Rea

Steven Rea, Philadelphia Inquirer

Nothing runs very deep, or very diverting ... in this overplayed, underwritten slice of (love-)life.

Curt Fields
July 6, 2001
Curt Fields, Washington Post

Tries hard to be charming, but succeeds only occasionally. Full Review

Rita Kempley

Rita Kempley, Washington Post

An incoherent jumble of characters and situations. Full Review

Mick LaSalle
June 29, 2001
Mick LaSalle, San Francisco Chronicle

Has a vacant, inept, why-oh-why feeling from its opening minutes and only gets worse. Full Review

Jay Carr
June 29, 2001
Jay Carr, Boston Globe

Naive as Kollek's writing is, there's something winning about his sympathy with out-of-step characters.

Kevin Thomas
June 22, 2001
Kevin Thomas, Los Angeles Times

An intimate, small-scale movie in the nicest sense and represents a wholly unanticipated advance on the part of Kollek. Full Review

Jonathan Foreman

Jonathan Foreman, New York Post

Despite a script that occasionally calls for some embarrassingly awkward lines, Kollek's cast generally acquits itself well.

Roger Ebert
June 8, 2001
Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times

There's nothing wrong with Fast Food Fast Women that a casting director and a rewrite couldn't have fixed. Full Review

Mark Caro
June 7, 2001
Mark Caro, Chicago Tribune

The filmmaker's enthusiasm for addressing diverse people's needs for both companionship and sexual gratification is admirable, but movies aren't just about notions.

Owen Gleiberman
June 1, 2001
Owen Gleiberman, Entertainment Weekly

Kollek is a fringe auteur who makes independent films the old fashioned way: no budget, static camera, a script that telegraphs its tiny, paste gem ironies. Full Review
