I really wonder why on earth this was made. Absolutely terrible. Not only were the main two miscast, their accents were atrocious and the script seemed to have been a first draft written by a over-zealous newbie. Far too long and so boring I was close to falling asleep. The only ... read more

The Irish take part in the Oklahoma Land Rush with Cruise and Kidman our representative couple, she from the landed gentry and he one of her father's tenant farmers. Can they put aside their class differences in time? Not a bad fantasy if overly manipulative. There doesn't see... read more

Ron Howard's 'Far and Away' is nothing different than other films you've seen before in this genre. It feels neither fresh or revolutionary. However, Cruise and Kidman turn in enjoyable performances and are able to heighten the entertainment the script sometimes fails to provide.... read more

The year is 1892 and Irish immigrants Joseph Donnelly (Tom Cruise) and Shannon (Nicole Kidman) have arrived at a shipping port in Boston, greeted by enticing faces who offer them jobs and safety...for a price.
Joseph has used Shannon to help cross the Atlantic; there's a long ... read more -
June 14, 2010fb619846742A decent but very forgettable love story between two Irish people who want to be together, but in America where land is available. As usual, both Cruise and Kidman are excellent in their respected roles, and the ending is well put-together. But it's nothing more than decent sadly... read more

I enjoyed seeing the acting of young Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman. It was a fun and watchable western about Cruise and Kidman leaving Ireland to own land in America.

One of many Tom and Nicole movies. This one is a bout Irish settlers in America. Accents are really bad.
Critic Reviews
Intense, treacly Cruise-Kidman immigrant epic. Full Review
Poorly written and simplistically acted, the film also shows little chemistry between real-life couple Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman. Full Review
An enjoyable, highly-romantic, somewhat witty film
Overblown would-be epic of the Western frontier.
Overlong Ron Howard epic with Cruise and Kidman.
An old-fashioned film carried into our hearts with breathtaking scenery, a swelling soundtrack, and large-scale dramatic happenings. Full Review
Well, it WAS better than "Days of Thunder"... sort of.
You don't really "buy" any of it in a believable way, but I say it still works as period-piece spectacle.
