This is definitely an interesting film. It takes the events of 9/11 and looks at them in a brand new way - through the lens of a mystery. Along the way, we delve into the life of a young man, filled with his own challenges and quirks. There were some parts that remained unreso... read morelved. I'm still unsure as to why others were included. But in the end, you get glimpses of the stories of average people as a border around the emotional story of one boy.

'The film adaptation of my FAVORITE NOVEL OF ALL TIME was pretty good. It was slow going, but true to the novel. If you haven't read the book, do it!

If the main character of any movie is just over the top annoying and overwhelmingly dislikeable, I don't care for what reason, that automatically turns me off from watching it. Although I did watch it in it's entirety, this artsy fartsy movie FAILS in a major way.

I personally loved this movie, and was shocked to see such negative reviews. I loved the fact that it centered around 9/11, as I think as painful and emotional as that was, we should NEVER forget it. I thought that the acting was superb and the scenery of NYC was wonderful.

I l... read moreoved the message and even though I was emotionally exhausted by the films end, I still felt good after seeing it. I give this film 10 stars and hope to see it receive many awards..The acting by the whole cast, although the boy carried the movie almost single handily, was great, and this movie seriously touched my heart.

I would give the last 1/3 of the movie 4 of 5 stars.

Reminiscent of the "soul-searching" story found in the movie "Hugo". Hence the story does not really come as a surprisingly original/fresh one, adapted from Safran Foer's book notwithstanding. Overall, however, "Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close" still comes up with Safran Foer's... read more spirit of curious, sleuth-ish naivete which still makes it an interesting watch.

Seriously kid, go home to your mom, love her, and continue being a child, not a cry baby that thinks he is so awesome.

It takes so much time trying to explain something that never is as surprisingly as it should be, and director Stephen Daldry gives to the material a suspicious way, the performances by its cast stand the movie of the sinking but sometimes i thought that was unecessary and others ... read morethat was fine, its not the type of movie that i'll repeat.

My God, what a boring movie! Tom Hanks and Sandra Bullock had little screen time and I thought it might redeem itself with Max Von Sydow, but he's mute! Absolutley no lines for the best actor in this heap! Oskar was also a wuss! Who's really afraid of swings? Come on!

So I wasn't quite sure what to expect going into this. The reviews for it were fairly bad but it got nominated for an Oscar, so I figured it was worth a shot; it couldn't be that bad.

The story is about a child who's father died during 9/11. A year later he finds a key in his fa... read morether's closet and he then begins a quest throughout NY to figure out what the key opens. This story sounds very noble and poetic right? Except that it isn't executed very well. As the film progressed, I found the plot more and more implausible. While the second half does have some strong moments, it wasn't enough to redeem the film as a whole. Watching this felt like a chore and that's never good.

I think the film lost me in the first half as I found the child actor to be very annoying and pompous (even considering the fact he lost his father, it was still really over the top). The supporting characters were mostly overly emotional and dramatic, except Max Von Sydow who gave a subtle, yet strong performance and was the sole bright spot of the film for me. At the end of the day, most of the emotional moments didn't really resonate for me and felt forced. Given that's more or less the goal of the film, it was disappointing.

Overall I found the film to be a little depressing, very boring, manipulative and a bit too long. The ending wasn't satisfying at all and it felt like the story didn't really go anywhere. It's Best Picture nomination was completely undeserved and it should have gone to a film like Shame, Drive or A Better Life. Take a pass on this one, not worth watching.

A lot of my friends said that this movie wasn't as good as what they were expecting, but I thought it was a really touching and inspired movie! Watch it!

I can tell that the movie will make me cry but I think it will be worth it.
