Clint Eastwood's first comedy feature proved to be one of his most profitable vehicles. Eastwood plays Philo Beddoe, a bare-knuckle boxer who travels from fight to fight in a beat-up truck, accompanie... read more read more...d by his "pal" Clyde, a orangutan with a mean right hook, and his human buddy Orville (Geoffrey Lewis). During a stopover, Philo meets and falls in love with would-be country & western singer Lynn Halsey-Taylor (Sondra Locke). After a while, she wants to break off the relationship, but he doesn't -- a shaky plot peg upon which to hang several reels' worth of zany car chases and confrontations with such opponents as a gang of bikers and a battalion of hostile lawmen. Adding to the fun is Ruth Gordon as Eastwood's don't-mess-with-me octogenarian mother, and Beverly D'Angelo as an ace sharpshooter. The enormous box-office success of Every Which Way But Loose yielded an equally wacky -- and equally lucrative -- sequel, Any Which Way You Can. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

Every Which Way is suprisingly good considering Eastwood wasn't made for this sort of movie. It boasts memorable lines and characters and although it has it's flaws ncluding its god-awful pacing. Every Which Way But Loose is uninspired but fun entertainment.

Clint Eastwood wins an orangutan in a fist fight and they quickly become best friends. A bizarrely charming movie ensues.

Just a really great movie. It's Clint Eastwood onscreen kicking ass for two hours. He uses his god given guns to defeat the bad guys and woo the ladies. This is a really fun experience that manages to be funny without being cheesy. I love Clyde and his talents (flipping people of... read moref, drinking beer and having sex at the zoo), he seemed like a true best friend to Clint Eastwood.

As with all Clint Eastwood films, I loved this one...soon I'll be able to say I've seen all his movies, and I'd love to own every one of them, and that counts the ones he directs! I remember being on a guided tour last year to the West, and visiting Sturgis, South Dakota, when th... read moree tour guide pointed to a bar there and said several scenes of a Clint Eastwood film were shot there, but didn't remember him saying which one it was. Well, apparently it was this one, cause I recognized Sturgis and the Black Hills in an instant! It looked the same 31 years earlier as it did in 2009. So I've been somewhere and walked the same street as where my all time favorite actor shot a big movie scene fight. Too cool!

Nice twist with Sondra Locke turning on Eastwood, and Clint then losing a fight, didn't see that coming!

Ma Boggs: [Ma has just learned of Philo and Orville's trip plans... turning to Philo] What're you gonna do with the baboon?
Philo Beddoe: Orangutan, Ma. Clyde's an orangutan.
Ma Boggs: [scoffs] Well, what's the difference?
Philo Beddoe: 12 ribs. Just like you and me.

A strange ... read morebuddy comedy that involves Clint Eastwood partnered up with an orangutan. This image of course got me and a friend instantly interested in watching this film. Its a nice change in pace from other Eastwood films, and is certainly fun in its own way. Still strange though.

Philo Beddoe, played by Eastwood, is an easy-going trucker and a great fist-fighter. With two friends - Orville, who promotes prize-fights for him, and Clyde, the orangutan he won on a bet - he roams the San Fernando Valley in search of cold beer, country music and the occasional punch-up. But he is floored himself by a dainty little country and western singer, who gives him the slip when she realizes he's getting too serious. Phil, Clyde and Orville set off in pursuit, pestered by bikers.

There are a lot of random elements all thrown together in this film, but for some reason it manages to come together and be entertaining.

Philo Beddoe: I'm not afraid of any man, but when it comes to sharing my feelings with a woman, my stomach turns to royal gelatin.

This is the first Clint Eastwood movie I have ever seen and I thought it was great. Clint Eastwood was the cool guy that kicked but and Clyde was his adorable orangatun sidekick. Can't wait to watch the sequel!

Clint's first monkey movie that made everyone wonder if he'll end up like that last guy that made monkey movies. A script that seems hand picked for Burt Reynolds (and it was written with him in mind AND ended up featuring one of the rapist hillbillies from Deliverance!) that foc... read moreuses on country music and promiscuous sex with multiple partners. If you love movies like Stroker Ace then this is your Citizen Kane. If you aren't a big fan of films with Mel Tillis then you will find this an OK flick where Clint got tired of shooting people in all his movies and decided to beat them to death with his bare hands for fun and profit.

The best one of Clint Eastwood's comedy movies and I love the scene of old Mama scaring the motorcycle gang hell out of her lawn with use her shotgun. That makes me laugh so much.

A great comedy about the odd life of a truck driver by day and bare knuckle fighter by night. Has some very funny moments.

Just weird enough to work as a fun time capsule in a half-baked sort of way. Full Review

An amusing redneck comedy from that brief period of time when Clint Eastwood was copying Burt Reynolds.
