Late influence of Dogma 95.
The Dogma certification in the opening credits had a strange effect on me, as going against the movement itself. Dogma 95 manifesto is very interesting, but it's reflection on contemporary cinema and on film as art and not illusion are not new (Ita... read more

The best of the Dogme films I have seen. The film makes great use of the digital camera work and natural lighting really enthusing the film with a realistic quality rarely seen. It's similar to 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days in its unflinching portrayal of a difficult subject in th... read more

with mads and nikolaj in the film, it was decent. if any other actors did it, it would collapse due to odd dialogue and plotline. They are very good actors, i suggest watching green butchers to see a better performance from these two.
Critic Reviews
Open Hearts is far from inaccessible, but it demands a higher level of concentration than most big-budget movies do. The drama exists in a glance or a nod, or in a slight hesitation in speech.
There is no doubting the heart-rending impact of the story. But because it is made clear from the start that there is no chance of an uplifting ending, viewers may grow restless. Full Review
Open Hearts is a heart-wrenching soap opera that even The Young and the Restless can't compete with.
It crackles with chemistry that feels both spontaneous and carefully layered, and, like the best Dogma entries, it takes a potentially sudsy premise and lays it bare until all that's left is the human... Full Review
An emotionally honest character piece that avoids moralizing or offering soggy excuses. Full Review
Open Hearts, like all good melodramas, is ruthless in its insistence that people are dragged, uncomprehending, in the wake of events. Full Review
A movie that really works.
The cast seems to have burrowed into the material.
Bier knows what she's doing, and the performances are expert and affecting.
