A typical lazy Sunday gives way to an introspective look at what it means to grow up for two 14-year-old boys left alone for the afternoon in director Fernando Eimbcke's gentle coming-of-age comedy. W... read more read more...ith the parents away and the Xbox all to themselves, best friends Flama (Daniel Miranda) and Moko (Diego Cataņo) plant themselves in front of the television and prepare for a fun afternoon of junk food, soda pop, and video games. As the battle to the death rages on the television, Flama's 16-year-old neighbor Rita (Danny Perea) knocks on the door to ask if she can use Flama's oven to bake a cake. When disaster strikes in the form of a deathmatch-killing power outage, Flama and Moko hang up the video-game controllers and call the local pizza parlor in hopes that the delivery man won't make the 30-minute guarantee and they will get a free pie. With a stopwatch in hand and the clock ticking, hapless delivery driver Ulises (Enrique Arreola) arrives precisely 11 seconds late. As the power flickers back on and the stubborn boys insist that their pizza should be free, Ulises contests their claim before agreeing to battle Moko in a video soccer match that will determine once and for all if the boys will pay for their pizza. Their game foiled by yet another unexpected blackout, the bored teens begin contemplating the strange behavior of adults, and the role that a painting of ducks plays in the bitter divorce of Moko's parents. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

What to do in a monotonous sunday? Sundays are always boring, anyway.
But if the lights go off and you canīt play videogame anymore?
You deliver a pizza, of course, but why not making a cake maybe?

and trash culture. Nothing really happens at the same time that everything does: discovery of sexuality, first kiss, divorce, parentīs absence, loneliness.
The pizza delivery man represents, perhaps, the future: as itīs possible to survive to a sunday, maybe itīs not possible to avoid the inevitable frustration...

A black and white meditation on boredom, young lust and determination in the face of nothing better to do and being young enough to know that you've got to make the most of it. After all those great things I'd heard about this my expectations were high but..., Not a bad film but tries so hard to be simple that almost loses it, I hope Matando Cabos will be better

this super funny 2004 movie, produced by Alfonso Cuarón and directed by Fernando Eimbcke went under the radar a little bit, but it definitely is one of the best mexican films of the decade... everything in this movie revolves around boredom, but the result is anything but boring.... read more.. flama and moko, two 14 year old boys have everything planned out for a great weekend without parents, but this plans are quickly ruined by a power outage, so they have to find out something to do... it's nicely shot, it has great writing and a really good cast, especially Diego Cataņo (Moko), Danny Perea (the baking neighbor) and Enrique Arreola (pizza delivery guy)... great mexican film!

Usually when comes to the TOMATOMETER rating it's mostly correct. Unfortunately, the critics don't always get it right, that the case with Duck Season.

Now watching a movie about two boring teenagers in a apartment with nothing to do is boring. While there might be some enjoya... read moreble moment, it feels like a movie of "filler". It not entirely bad, the actors do a good job on acting what the audience is thinking while watching this, bored.

I admire it being in black & white since it's rare to see a movie in that format being made in modern time. To bad it's not a good movie as I felt the story didn't have enough material to keep me engage and made me consider turning it off. Unfortunately, the film few good moments are short and we the set throughout the whole movie. While the film 12 Angry Man also mostly took place in one set, it had enough material and a strong cast to keep us entertain unlike Duck Season.

Duck Season, may I say, is a over-rated movie that makes me wonder if these critics were paid to write good reviews for this bore fest. Now while it nice to have a slow pace movie like this in this day and age, it suffers from lack of materials, any interesting actor, and is overall a poorly made movie.

"Duck Season" starts out on an average Sunday at 11:00 am. A mother(Carolina Politi) is leaving the apartment for the day leaving her son, Flama(Daniel Miranda), in charge, along with his friend, Moko(Diego Catano). They feel there is no better way to spend... read more the day than to play violent video games. Their games are temporarily interrupted by Rita(Danny Perea), a neighbor whose oven is broken and asks to use theirs. They agree, just as long as she does not bother them. A more permanent interruption comes when the power goes out. Now bored, they order pizza. After a heroic climb of eight flights of stairs, the pizza deliveryman, Ulises(Enrique Arreola), arrives but according to the boys he is 11 seconds late, so the pizza should be free. The deliveryman respectfully disagrees.

"Duck Season" is a very droll comedy that is a salute to lazy Sundays and making the best of a bad situation. It is not what you do on a single day; it is who you spend it with. As the movie goes on, it takes on added depth as more about the characters is revealed and we come to care about them even more. And I especially loved the black and white cinematography.

A sweet simple film about those long summer days.

Quirky and cute. It was good to see that it made me laugh when previously I had been in a mood not to. It lifts your spirits without being sing-song and it captures moments that would have otherwise have remained in the far recesses of adolescent nostalgia, i.e. the coke thing. Definitely of the less traveled road for myself, this foreign film is stylish, it isn?t something amazing, it?s just the tale of one interesting afternoon of improvisation for two best friends. And that works because of the interesting characters that are fleshed out. Silence is ... read moregolden here as the actors and characters themselves are comfortable not talking. It?s off-beat comedy, nothing crazy, but just enough spontaneity to entertain and draw one in. I didn?t find it as disarming as Leonard Maltin?s Movie Guide claims, but certainly was a nice change from the action packed, drama powerhouse films I have become used to. Nice and refreshing something to relax to and enjoy for what it is.

this movie is so old.. anyways.. just thought the idea could've been more interesting if the direction was better.. but the acting of the kids and ..well the direction is just crappy.

A quiet, loopy gem, Duck Season is a goofball celebration of old friends, new beginnings, adolescent freedom, and baked goods laced with a little something extra.
