Constable: Going on a morning walk?
Dolores Claiborne: No, I'm just packing the get-away boat, so I can make my great escape.
Dolores Claiborne is a good drama from Stephen King that translates well to the screen. Kathy Bates gives a great performance as Dolores; a woman who i... read more -

A shocking drama from King, about a mother and daughter and a secret. I was pleasantly surprised by this movie, and I think you will be too. I highly recommend it.

This was far better than what I was expecting. (Even though I'm a Stephen King fan in general, this particular plot didn't seem too interesting to me.) There are a few turns and twists, most of which (if not all) are predictable, but the way they're unveiled is commendable. And t... read more

Not as good as Misery, but is any Kathy Bates move as good as that one? There's a lot of misery in this movie, everyone seems so unhappy. I wanted it to be more revenge-y, but it' wasn't and it got real, real fast. It's just okay.

Personally I think Stephen King's more realistic story's are his best, including his book Dolores Claiborne.
And Kathy Bates is perfect for the role as Dolores. -

I'd heard so much about this movie all these years and said I'd give it a watch, and FINALLY did on New Year's 2010. I should've watched this about 14 years ago when it was all over tv! Kathy Bates is amazing and Jennifer Jason (hey, that's my name!) Leigh does well also. If I'd ... read more

A rather untypical Stephen King story, although some of his regular motifs return was turned into one of the best adaptions of his books. Set in the grey, gloomy, yet beautiful images of the present, as a daughter returns home for her mother's murder trial as well as the colorful... read more

This thoughtful Stephen King adaptation is drawn from another of the terror master's straight dramas and benefits from Kathy Bates's performance as a Maine housekeeper accused of murdering her employer and now reluctantly reunited with her estrangled daughter (Jennifer Jason Leig... read more

If there is one thing I always fear, than it must be movies about bad marriages, an abusive husband, child abuse ... How often do you get a good movie with such subjects. Not very often, because most of the time these are awful TV-movies that seem to be written at a rate of at le... read more
Critic Reviews
Denso e melancólico, o filme supera suas ocasionais falhas de roteiro graças às fortes atuações de seu elenco feminino (incluindo a jovem Ellen Muth).
Dreadfully depressing, but Kathy Bates stuns
Gothic and creepy.
The film boldly refuses to satisfy the horror fans who are its expected audience, but it's massively unclear what kind of audience it does have in mind.
Effective character study thriller.
Speaks volumes about the subjugation of women and the hellish nightmare of living in a dysfunctional family. Full Review
A character study, which was very effective, and a mood piece, which was overdone. Full Review
