Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (Brave Heart Will Take the Bride) was a huge hit in India, and won all the major Filmfare Awards. It was also the film that catapulted Shahrukh Khan to Bollywood superstard... read more read more...om, and it was the first of several successful pairings of Khan and Kajol. Khan plays Raj, a likeably goofy rich Indian boy, brought up in London, who's had everything handed to him in life. Kajol is Simran, a proper Indian girl who also lives in London. Her stern father (Amrish Puri) has arranged for her to go to back to his sorely missed homeland in Punjab to marry the son of an old friend. Simran persuades the old man to let her go off on a month-long trip to Europe with her girlfriends before she weds. On the trip, Simran meets Raj, and naturally they don't get along at first. He humiliates her with his pranks, and she refuses to loosen up. Then they get stranded together, get drunk together, sing and dance together, and begin to develop feelings for each other. They return to London, each hoping the other will express his/her love. They part, and when Simran's father overhears her telling her mother (Farida Jalal) about Raj, he gets angry and demands that they leave for India immediately. But Raj follows them there, determined to win over Simran's father and take Simran as his bride. He ingratiates himself with the dimwitted groom, Kuljit (Parmeet Sethi), and enters the household as his friend. Things get even more complicated when Kuljit's family mistakenly believes that Raj is interested in the groom's sister, and they begin to plan a double wedding. The film was the directorial debut of Aditya Chopra, and the hit soundtrack was composed by the writing team Jatin-Lalit. ~ Josh Ralske, Rovi

It's like Shahrukh Khan has his own style that represents in most of his movies. I'm not a big fan of Kajol but I don't mind watching her. I watched this movie a long time ago. Still remember every part of it. Religious parents can be frightening. They'll give you freedom with so... read moreme horror in it. I liked this movie a lot. Shahrukh Khan's presents is enough to make the movie hit!

I loved the musical numbers but otherwise I wasn't particularly keen on the film. I found Raj annoying for most if not all of the first half, but found myself liking him better after the intermission.

An ultimate favorite with a great story plot by Aditya Chopra. Shahrukh Khan and Kajol star in a beautiful story about two individuals who meet and fall in love on a trip through Europe with friends. Great music. Amrish Puri and Anupam Kher co-stars. Worth seeing!

This is the first movie that I saw Shahrukh Khan in and the actually the second Bollywood film I saw. I feel in love completely with Bollywood and Shahrukh Khan. It's a great movie about love and adversity and being with who you love even if your family doesn't always approve.

An epic love story that essentially crams as many romantic tropes into its running time as it possibly can. A chance meeting between two second generation Indians from Britain whilst on a vacation in Europe leads very quickly to an impossible love, for the woman is already promi... read moresed to another man. However, when has that ever stopped a romantic hero from winning the girl? There is no question that this film is predictable, but it's also very entertaining and very funny. The cast is excellent, the songs are entertaining, and it hits almost all the right notes. The film only falters when it reaches its climax which seems way too rushed considering everything that has come before. Still, if you're a fan of "Bollywood" films then you definitely should see this.
