While on assignment in North Korea, Bond is captured by ... read more read more...government agents, where he's imprisoned and tortured for over a year. When Bond finally wins his freedom, not everyone is certain 007 is still capable of doing the job, but after Zao (Rick Yune), the North Korean operative who snared Bond, is discovered to be in cahoots with unscrupulous entrepreneur Gustav Graves (Toby Stephens), Bond is back on the case, and he finds the two men have sinister plans which could decide the fate of the world. As Bond hops from England to Cuba to Korea to Iceland in pursuit of his quarry, he (as usual) makes the acquaintance of two beautiful and mysterious women, Jinx (Halle Berry) and Miranda Frost (Rosamund Pike). Judi Dench and John Cleese return in Die Another Day as, respectively, Bond's superior M and gadget-master Q; Madonna contributes the film's theme song and makes a cameo appearance as a fencing instructor. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

hands down, the worst bond movie
  • November 1, 2011
Die Another Day is indeed an entertaining Bond film, but it's hampered with poor acting from Halle Berry, a horrifying sequence done almost primarily in dated CGI, and also a very poor ending. It does have several things going for it though. It's cool to see James Bond go through... read more some real torture for a change. The film also has a terrific sword fight in the middle. I would much rather that Rosamund Pike and Halle Berry switch roles as Berry is more suitable as a villain (ala Pam Grier, I'm thinking), but alas, that didn't happen. So I wouldn't call the film a waste of time like most people tend to do. It is action-oriented and has some nice exciting scenes in it, but it's not perfect. Hardly any Bond film is, so be thankful they put forth any effort.

The gadgets are cool, but it lacks substance. Kudos for Halle Berry as a Bond girl though.

Quite heavy on CGI, most of which is unnecessary, but still action-packed and thrilling like every Bond flick should be. It doesn't even drag on too long, surprisingly, and even though the CGI began to ruin the plot through the midpoint of the film, it was brought completely bac... read morek up on its feet again by the end.

As the 20th entry in the series, this James Bond adventure should have really been something special. Instead, it's rather lackluster and kind of ridiculous, even by the standards of the series.

Oh, it's entertaining, and there are some parts I liked, but this film just really ... read moredidn't do it for me. I blame the overabundance of cgi, the mess of a plot (it definitely had potential, but didn't fully come together), and the fact that the numerous references to the other films came off as more forced than natural.

I'm glad the Brosnan era ended here, because he was really starting to weather by this point, but it's a shame that he couldn't have gone out on a higher note. I liked that Halle Berry and Michael Madsen were in this, although they could have been used better (and, in Madsen's case, more).

The film is all over the place, but Tamahori's direction isn't actually too terribly bad. The pacing is decent, even if there's just a lot of silly and uninspired moments throughout. I don't think this is the absolute worst Bond film, but it sure as hell deserved to be better than this.

My fave Bond movie. Love the car chase on ice and the ice palace. Of course 007 gets the girl, beats the baddies and saves the world all in his own style! Madonna even makes a cameo.

If you're looking for the worst Bond film ever made, here it is. This film is a travesty of the franchise. This is simply put, a piece of shit. A film so bad that it cannot be redeemed by anything. This is a terribly irritating bad film that just doesn't work, and this film has t... read morehe most pathetic plot of any Bond film I have ever seen. Pure trash. This is a poor end to Pierce Brosnan's stint as James Bond.

I say it is one of the best bond films, even though I have not seen many of them. I really enjoyed this one, and I am going to eventually get around to watching them all!
