Hapless preteen Greg Heffley (Zachary Gordon) endures bullies, swirlies, morons, and wedgies while navigating the treacherous world of middle school and recording his traumas in his personal journal i... read more read more...n this family-oriented comedy inspired by author Jeff Kinney's best-selling series of illustrated novels. Try as he might, Greg just can't understand who thought it was a good idea to place kids who haven't even hit their first growth spurt in the same school as kids who get a five-o'clock shadow by lunch time. Realizing that he'll have to get creative if he hopes to survive until high school, Greg concocts a series of get-cool-quick schemes that all go hopelessly awry. Despite the fact that he's viewed as a dork by his peers, Greg never loses hope that someday, when all is said and done, he'll be able to look back on his middle school experiences and laugh. Steve Zahn and Rachael Harris co-star in this comedy from Hotel for Dogs director Thor Freudenthal. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

Out of all teen films dealing with a new school, this is definitely the best to me. I haven't read the source material that his film was based on, but I'm sure it does a good job at following the series of books. This is a perfect film to show a kid who is now going into middle s... read morechool, and the kids in this film all do great jobs at acting in this, and all of them are genuinely funny. The way how they use the cartoon drawings and animate them is very cool to watch and very interesting to look at. To me the best thing about this whole movie aside from the main actor and storytelling, is the music. The music for this film was picked perfectly, Beasty Boys Intergalactic for the Mother Son dance scene is very funny to watch, and very goofy to watch, but the best song in the movie is the ending credits song, "What Do You Want From Me" by Forever the Sickest Kids, its very energetic, well played by the group, and is very catchy to listen to.

Really? Can scatology replace real humor?

The first of 3 films, about a kid trying to fit in at middle school. Everyone can relate to a large part of the film. Starting a new school, with older kids, growing up and trying to fit in. It has a few childish moments meant to be funny for very young viewers perhaps. Overall a... read more decent family comedy film.

I was ready to give this a straight up half star raiting, but it's not that bad. This is obciously a movie directed for much younder audiences, and becomes an annoying to anyone in their teens years or up, but the art direction and editing were very well planned and delivered. I... read more can;pt say much for the characters or the script. It's just a typical school movie. We see two best friends and how they each handle middle school thoughout an entire year. They start off as friends, one gets popular, one becomes less popular, one gets betrayed, both ignore each other, and then they eventually make amends and become friends again. Not too interesting. But, it's not a total waste of time. It can be a fun watch if you give it a chance. But still, not that great of a movie.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid is one of the most charming and best family book adaptions ever. Its mainly about the misadventures of Greg heffley (Zachary Gordon) in his first year of middle school. The comedy is great, I laughed at this almost the whole way through mainly because the ... read morecomedy was charming and fun, I truly got into it. The story was good, it switched a lot of the adventures to different moments in the movies, such as the Wizard of Oz scene was at the end instead of the middle of the movie. All of the cast was great, but I found Chloe Morets a very dissappointing character who wasnt funny or in the book. Overall this is one of the most charming films you'll ever see, espically a family movie.

Greg finds life hard in middle school. He wants to be trendy and date the popular girl but the actions of him and his geeky friends get in the way. A bit like Malcolm in the Middle.

When you try hard to impress people, it will always backfire because impressing someone is really not an easy job to do. This movie is basically for kids. I did liked those cartoons but this was a blah movie for me. I wouldn't say I was bored. It was predictable. Gross. Sweet end... read moreing. Good lesson that everyone should watch and learn. But like I said, blah.

The young cast is all game, and sidekicks Robert Capron and Grayson Russell are a real hoot. Slumber party viewings are inevitable.
