Well, I couldn't not watch the greatest box-office flop of all time. Ever heard of Delgo? Probably not, it came, it went and that was all. Delgo tells the story of two waring races and how tensions rise when the Princess of one side goes missing. It's a typical fantasy plot. The ... read moreanimation is nowhere near the quality you'd expect from 6-8 years of work on this. However, the designs are rather impressive in places, and a beautiful and original world, that we could vanish into could have been created. It's not as terrible as you might expect. The tension between the two tribes is fairly well built on and the adult themes of immigration and societies view of it, are quite well handled, for a kids film. Kilmer's aggressive, gambling, but ultimately good character, also gives some sense that the adults were being catered for at one stage. This film is garnering more attention now, due to the similarities it shares with the Avatar trailer, but something tells me that isn't going to fail as spectacularly.

I really wanted to see this one... but disappointment was huge after doing it! I think that this story and the way it was set up is more for comics than for a film.

The story about two duelling civilizations prepare to unleash the dogs of war could not keep me interested for a long time the way it was told... especially when it's up to one troubled adolescent and his unlikely friends to save their world from unspeakable destruction.

It wasn't too bad as an idea , there was a lot of effort put in it, but the result was miserable... I am sorry to say, but my recommendation is to skip this one!

Proof that the more writers a film has the bigger piece of Delgo it is.

Decent flick that attempts to return to the formula of 80's cartoons: Tell a decent story, remove as much actual death as possible, and have some sort of moral lesson.

As to moral lessons, this follows and even mixes many old formulas: Peasant plus princess, downtown plus u... read moreptown, breaking of racial barriers, racial tension, Democracy vs Monarchy, Buddism, Christianity, treachery, misunderstandings, war...all that rolls together to come to a nice little happy ending which the kids will enjoy.

A simple story about waring nations and a Romeo and Juliet romance. There are complex turns that may be beyond the understanding of young children. The animation is top notch.

Anybody who says this is the worst movie ever in either major wide release features or direct to video obviously has never seen any of the bullshit that Friedberg & Seltzer have been pumping out dumbing down society. It is the lowest grossing movie of all time. But can anybody ho... read morenestly remember seeing a commercial for this? Or in a theater? Delgo does plenty of things right and has lots of flashes of brilliance, but in the end doesn't sufficiently come together. The animation is incredibly detailed and imaginative. Techniques like scores of light sources in a scene, moving cameras, lots and lots of pieces moving simultaneously, clouds of dust, and shimmering foggy auras that produce their own light, are used often. But that's where it really stops being special. Some of the characters are poorly developed and Chris Kattan is just as retardly annoying as in animated form as he is in the flesh. But for the most part the voice acting is well done and they got a very good cast together. The storyline is rather cliche and predictable. The editing quite poorly takes you from scene to scene. In the end it's a damn good effort and doesn't deserve the title biggest bomb ever. A lot of work was put in this to be called that. How much work do you think was put into Vampire Sucks?

A little bit Romeo and Juliet, a little bit Trail of Tears, and not at all Pixar. Some of the animation is pretty, but it's not at all polished in the ways we've come to expect. The story is simultaniously cliched and not quite finished. For example, what does Kyla do to convi... read morence the army? And how does the stampede magically cease the war between the tribes? my curiosity was killing me when it came to the biggest box office bomb of all time in terms of number of people who saw it. when released, this film averaged less than two viewers per screening and was ditched from theaters after a week, making 8,000 dollars total. several peopl... read moree went bankrupt because of this film, which shelved its marketing costs when it ran out of money. i think with your typical animated push it would probably have made 30-40 million overall but still would have been a loss.

now to the actual product. is it really that bad? no, it is not. the critics trashed the quality of animation but i had no problem with that. the film also talks about such things as imperialism and racial politics, albeit in very broad strokes fit for youngsters. it is also pretty fast-paced, so i disagree with the critical complaint that it was boring. i found some characters extremely imaginative and entertaining. but two things hurt the movie, aside from the common "unoriginal" complaint (the film is very archetypal and eerily similar to avatar in a few ways). one is the constant wisecracking especially during action sequences. think the amount of wisecracking in the mummy sequels. now triple it. and have chris kattan, freddie prinze junior and anne bancroft doing it instead of brendan frazier and rachel weisz, and having it be incredibly clean cut. not that appealing. the second thing is the lack of a satisfying climax in the final battle, which is moreso referenced than depicted. the final showdown of hero vs. villian is anti-climactic and delayed by several jokes. and then the ending is package wrapped very distastefully as if the producers had run out of money (which i am pretty sure is exactly the case). this film suffers the unfortunate fate of dropping off a cliff in terms of quality during the final ten minutes. before the end, i was thinking 2.5, maybe even three. but the ending really brings it down.

in summary, delgo is not the most horrible movie ever although stephen colbert may designate it so by market performance. however, it is a less than average animated family adventure that is moreso the standard fare for an eight year old to pass a weekend at grandma's on tv than something the family should pay money to see at the movies (or rent).

An OK, cartoon movie. Has a star wars and a video game feel to it to me with the odd critters in the movie. Over all a pretty decent movie. I give it 3 stars...***

I wasn't sure about this movie at first but after 15 minutes into it I became hooked. The movie is really well done and the story isn't bad.

Although the film may be too violent for kids younger than 10 and too storybook for teens, it is a tale of mythic pretensions and can be quite stunning. Full Review

The story is tedious, noisy and banal. It is also rather dark and convoluted for children, though it does have the familiar bombast of a video game. Full Review

This flick is like a cheap thriller where the wisecracks always fall flat and the author couldn't be bothered to invent a new plot, so he just patches together some old ones. Full Review
