Intelligent, intense and well-acted undercover cop drama, with Jeff Goldblum playing nicely against type as a psychotic yuppie and Laurence Fishburne suitably tortured as the cop seduced by his lavish life of crime.

Amazing crime drama. I thought this genre was going to go in this film's and One False Move's direction, but once Reservoir Dogs came out that pretty much ruined crime films. Not saying RD was bad, quite the opposite, it's a 5 star film, but it's imitators were usually terrible... read more

A very good movie. Sweetly action packed with very interesting characters! Something of a character driven story, but with more action scenes than it really needs, but it really doesn't hurt the film as a whole, or only barely.

This is the first I've seen this older movie which bills Lawrence Fishburne as "Larry Fishburne." AWESOME movie. Proves that we are all only too human...but sometimes we can still be counted on to do the right thing.
Definitely going to watch this one again. -

Critic Reviews
What emerges is a powerhouse thriller full of surprises, original touches, and rare political lucidity, including an impressive performance by Jeff Goldblum. Full Review
Deep Cover eventually degenerates into so much gratuitous violence that 'kill' sounds like the most-used verb in the screenplay's last stages. Full Review
Rather than ride the easy cynicism of the script, by Michael Tolkin and Henry Bean, Fishburne illuminates his character's moral struggle.
What sets Deep Cover apart is its sense of good and evil, the way it has the Fishburne character agonize over the moral decisions he has to make. Full Review
third-rate blaxploitation picture for the '90s, it aims to be street-tough and an admonishment against drugs. It manages to be neither. Full Review
Larry Fishburne is clearly a star of the future, but Deep Cover won't be the vehicle. Full Review
Cynical police thriller that veers between a standard issue genre action pic and something more meaningful and original. Full Review
Smart and stylish, it also has scenes of crackling violence and dramaturgy that oftentimes strains to work but, on the whole, Deep Cover is engaging, thoughtful and inventive. Full Review
It's an unsettling yet compelling blend, and probably one you don't want to think about too much. Full Review
