Decades worth of innocent travelers fall prey to a demonic and hungry piece of furniture in this long-lost cult film, which was completed in 1977, but not released until a quarter-century later. In a ... read more read more...tiny stone castle in the woods, the ghost of a flouncy artist (Dave Marsh/voice of Patrick Spence-Thomas) remains trapped inside the walls and witnesses the strange goings-on that give the film its title. It seems that the magnificent canopy bed that dominates the decor is actually the resting place of a demon who built it to seduce a lovely maiden back in 1897. Their unnatural congress having killed the poor girl, her monstrous Casanova became one with his creation and proceeded to snack on anybody who chanced across his rustic retreat. As the ghost watches, horrified, additional victims fall prey to the pernicious pallet. But the reign of terror may finally be over when the bed receives a visit from a pair of young siblings (Rosa Luxemburg and William Russ). The lone film by writer/director George Barry, Death Bed did not find distribution until 25 years after its 1977 completion -- and then only thanks to an Internet review of a bootleg copy. Death Bed: The Bed That Eats received its U.S. premiere at the San Francisco International Horror Festival February 15, 2003. A mural of the titular abomination by noted occultist Austin Osman Spare figures prominently in the film's plot. ~ Brian J. Dillard, Rovi

This movie was so gangsta they didn't release it until 2003.

We're talking one downright magical work of cinema.

This is just one of those movies. It seems totally ridiculous but it's just a whole lotta fun. I laugh like a school girl from the Philippines every time I watch it. It's a great party film. Although, I must admit I did stab my mattress 9 times after viewing this. Ya'know, just i... read moren case..

Thanks, Patton, for turning me onto this local film.

This another one of thsoe movies like Black Samurai that I rated so high because it is oh-so-enjoyably-terrible. I mean, this movie is just God awful. I guess the best way to review this movie is to let you know wha... read moret you are seeing at first. What most of the film is are scenes of the bed, people getting on the bed with some object, the object gets foamed around with a yellow bile and then shown in a pool of yellow. The bed then decides to eat the people in the same manner. We watch this scene OVER and OVER again. Throughout time, the bed has done this and we get to watch the killing of all these people by foamy bile digestion. Trust me, that's pretty accurate.

The movie is really kind of typical 70's devil movie. There's this huge elaborate origin legend of a demon bleeding on the bed and how it can only be killed for a few hours every ten years. But then there are the characters, or as I call them "bed fodder." These characters don't get much back story. We just know that there's the frumpy naked girl (IT'S A MOVIE ABOUT A KILLER BED! THERE'S GONNA BE SOME TITS!) These people get eaten.

The best part of the movie is bone hands though. I won't go into any kinds of details. But I think you can figure out "bone hands." Yeah. Exactly what it sounds like.

Really, I don't think it would hurt to get a little drunk before watching this movie. I certainly did and it helped me. The overall benefit of this movie is that it is really short and fairly straightforward. It's camp as hell and sports all kinds of 70's breasts. That's right, I'm superficial, but that's okay sometimes. I also have to stress that you probably shouldn't watch this movie alone. This is an enjoyable discussion piece because it is so bad. Trust me, a good time.

I'm surprised anyone else on Flixster has reviewed this thing. We viewed this one evening during a Bad Movie night that included other classics such as Hawk the Slayer.

The plot, such as it is, is about a Bed. That eats. People. That's about it. It's divided up into segment... read mores named Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner.

If I dared you to make a 90 minute movie about a bed eating people, do you think you could do it well? You've still got your chance to make that dream come true, because it certainly didn't happen here. The world is surely begging for a remake.

1 star for the title alone, which had me laughing out loud. Do yourself a favor and just laugh at the title and imagine what the movie might be like. It's better that way.

A marvelous oddity the equivalent of a child's fanciful, monsters-in-the-closet imagination running wild and naked through Barry's uncensored libido. Full Review
