Alex Stillman ... read more read more...(Bret Harrison) is a Yale senior with a knack for Texas Hold 'Em. But while Alex dreams of the day he'll be able to dominate the tables out in Las Vegas, he hasn't mastered the art of the cards just yet. Alex's luck begins to change, however, after a chance encounter with legendary poker player Tommy Vinson (Burt Reynolds). Tommy gave up gambling 20 years ago in hopes that he could save his family. He recognizes the potential in Alex, and he's beginning to regain his confidence after two decades of maintaining a low profile. Alex agrees to become Tommy's protégé, and together the pair wins every tournament they enter. But Alex's attraction to beautiful Las Vegas call girl Michelle (Shannon Elizabeth) has caused his attention shift away from the tables, and that distraction has opened up a deep chasm between the emerging talent and the undisputed master. Later, after Alex and Tommy call off their partnership, they find themselves on opposite sides of the table at the prestigious World Poker Tour. Who will take the top prize? Will it be the old pro who promised he would never gamble again or the newcomer who learned all of his tricks from the true master of the trade? ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

Deal centers around a aging poker player played really good by a ageing Burt Reynolds who never fullfilled his dream of winning the big one and the young kid just out of college he takes under his wing showing him the ins and outs of the poker world that is untill student and tea... read morecher go up against each other in a winner take all world series of poker. really good movie worth checking out for those that enjoyed Rounders

This movie was quite familiar to me. I thought I was watching a remake of Color Of Money. Spme serious hackey acting and I believe Reynolds studied Newman's performance in the forementioned film. The pros that make cameos don't even add anything to the film.

It's called Deal. It's a movie about Texas Hold'em. Big surprise. The movie was good, I suppose. It didn't suck anyway. I liked the ending, it was predictable - but it was the ending I wanted so all was right with the world. ;)

I enjoyed this movie. Its about a young man who gives up his career and dreams to become a professional card player and learns strategies and techniques by an ex-professional card player.. read the synopsis and find out more on this great movie.

It wasn't a bad, and the cast seemed to fit pretty well. However, it wasn't that good, either. It never really got up to a "on the edge of your seat" lever of intensity, or a serious level of laugh out lout comedy. Instead, it was just sort of a smooth ride all the way.

I love poker but good poker movies are just hard to come by. The movie actually moved pretty fast but just like in Lucky you I did not feel in touch with any of the characters. They don't go into much depth on any of the characters and there is really no surprises to this movie.... read more In the end I did not even care who wins or why. This movie was about as predictible as could be. It was too easy to see how the final table was going to be played out. Burt Reynold dyed hair brows and mustache were kind of distracting too. This movie was not horrible but it is the minimum you would want from a movie and if you have little intrest in poker or these actors I definately would not watch this. If you do like poker don't expect anything great emotions that might go with the game.

Pretty Good movie, Burt Reynolds is old but still a good actor. Plenty of poker stars in this one, if you like poker then this is a good one to see.

They've got to do something else with these poker movies.

Reynolds doesn't convey any of the lightning bolt insouciance that made him arguably the greatest movie star of the '70s and '80s (really) but rather just stands there. Full Review

Success isn't in the cards for this plodding poker drama.

Deal could use a touch of the slickness that's making the blackjack drama 21 such a greasy hit. Full Review

A product of the recent poker craze, this can't compare with the movie that helped launch it, John Dahl's tense Rounders. Full Review

Deal is perhaps too briskly paced: The narrative moves along a bit too fleetingly for any genuine character development. Full Review

Moving slowly these days, Burt Reynolds does less than no acting in this role, and he's still the best thing in Deal. Full Review

The film has more of a checklist of clichés than an actual script and, when it comes to the cast, director Gil Cates Jr. is scraping the bottom of the barrel. Full Review

An embarrassingly toothless and endlessly boring story about characters we barely get to know doing things that are more exciting than they make it seem. Full Review
