Peter Hurteau and Michael Reich star as Hero Robot #1 and Hero Robot #2, two androids clad in ever-present motorcycle helmets. The two drive through the desert en route to Inyo County, CA, where the entire population, regardless of age, dresses in identical attire. Upon arrival in the town, the two enter a scientific facility where experimenters pour hot latex over their helmets to make nightmarish flesh-covered masks that infuriate town residents. The robots then embark on a lengthy trek across an endless expanse of salt flats. ~ Nathan Southern, Rovi

Electroma is the story of two robots (Daft Punk) who break from the norm to express their inner individuality in a world populated by robots, with disastrous consequences. This is an experimental film with no dialog whatsoever, running a generous 74 minutes, and some people may ... read morefeel it drags on a bit in parts. Even fans of Daft Punk may be left scratching their heads since it doesn?t feature their music but, supposedly, it syncs up with their album Human After All ala Pink Floyd/Wizard of Oz. If you are not into experimental film you will probably much prefer their animated excursion, Interstella 5555, which I highly recommend.

I haven?t tried synchronizing it to their album but I enjoyed it just fine, though it should be said I?m a fan of unusual movies. The photography is very professional considering they are amateur film makers, and there?s enough here to keep your interest, all without the need for words. I hope they?ll continue exploring their visual creativity through cinema in the future, and if it sounds like something you might enjoy, check it out.

See Daft Punk drive! See Daft Punk gaze into mirrors! See Daft Punk walk! Alot! All said and done, the visuals were highly impressive, especially the expansive desert. Yeah, yeah I get the message of the movie, but it doesn't help that at some points I was bored.

All said and do... read morene there is an upside to this movie. You can sync Electroma up with Daft Punk's cd Human After All. Now, it isn't perfect, especially since it depends which cut you have (the American version has a shorter run time?). Regardless I tried it and it made the film much more enjoyable. When Daft Punk is driving through the town and they look at the man reading the newspaper, the cd gets about a little way through Robot Rock and the song slows down at this point and picks right back up when they drive off. There are other moments like this as well, and Emotion fits so well with all the shots of the desert. Was this done purposely? Perhaps. Or just a hell of a coincidence.

This is great. It is shot just perfictly. There is a lot of meaning and thought behind this film. It lost half a star for the Daft Punk jackets. They seemed to pull me out of the movie. It's like high art then bam Daft Punk. Ok next it lost half a star for the sand vagina. I mean... read more what the f*ck? What did that mean, why was it there? Any way great music also and verry compelling. If you are a fan o THX 1138 or Holy Mountain you should check this out. I loved the minamulist sifi 70's approch. I loved this film.

I think Daft Punk missed. Some wonderful imagery and great for first time filmmakers, but really difficult to like, even though I want to. The lab and the ends are best. Worth seeing if you like artistic impressions over really movement.

daft punk's electroma is a stunning film full of genuine human emotion strangely portrayed by silent emotionless robots.
it's an ultimately beautiful film that sadly succumbs to it's own tedious walking sequences. images of melting latex faces will almost bring you to tears. it's... read more so fascinating when a film with so little words makes you feel so much. it's such
an unexpected and wonderful thing when a music group can be responsible
for such lovely film making. it's to bad that fantastic moments of melting faces and dissenting fellow robots are over shadowed by 8 minute sequences of walking and 6 minutes of driving, which make the film undesirably slow. thankfully when a film ends as good as this one does you leave it with total satisfaction knowing that in retrospect you watched a brilliant piece of film making.

The defining characteristic of this movie is its ability to remain boring despite being about robots who want, more than anything, to become human. Possibly the greatest premise upon which a movie can base itself. Anyway, if you enjoy film as a medium, or are really interested i... read moren cinematography or visual arts in general, this movie is recommended, although it is far from entertaining. Important facts to note concerning "Electroma": It features no Daft Punk music, it features no dialogue, it features insanely long, drawn out shots of robots walking across deserts and things of that nature, and it is neat.

Helmers [Daft Punk] bizarrely choose not to use their own catchy tunes here, the one thing that might have given pic slim commercial legs. Full Review
