This movie has a lot of things going for it. Clive Owen, gambling and violence. But as an American used to American movies of the same nature, this movie just doesn't pul it's own weight. It is a "crime drama thriller," that fails to be thrilling.

Clive Owen, sexiest motherfucker on the whole damn block, ladies and gentlemen. He'll never top this. This is how to craft a badass without making him seem like a silly caricature - gift him with intelligence, perception, humanity. John is such a delight to watch at all times, a ... read more

Huge Clive Owen fan (like Caine, reeks off badassness). I liked this film, but felt that it fell apart in the end. My favorite part of the story was the writer aspect of the story and thought that was the strongest and most interesting part of the story. Then Hodges feels the nee... read more

A rather drawn out film despite the main storyline being pretty good. Clivce Owen appeared to be a bit miserable and monotone which of course made the character and with his hat on, he just kept reminding of Michael Stipe when he sang 'Man on the Moon'
VERDICT: Watchable, bu... read more -

It's a shame that Clive Owen isn't out in good movies anymore. His role here in Croupier, as the existential card dealer, is magnificent.
Croupier is directed by Mike Hodges, who, like Guy Ritchie, typically stays in the same genre of film. There is some fine direction here, an... read more -

This is a sharp drama... read more
Critic Reviews
Polished and adroit ado about next to nothing, Hodges's film owes everything to Owen, who nails the vaguely unsavory, unreadable, half-lidded hunks that inhabit every profitable entertainment-industry... Full Review
It's amazing the level of suspense that Hodges builds as Jack/Jake intermingles with other people. Full Review
The choice of Clive Owen as the star is a good one. He's got the same sort of physical reserve as Sean Connery in the Bond pictures. Full Review
Don't let Croupier go by without a look.
For 95 percent of the way, it is an engrossing tour of an attractively seamy side of life and a fascinating character study, despite having a novelist for a hero. Full Review
With its fascinating, multi-layered plot, intelligent screenplay, and subtle-yet-undeniable tension building, Croupier is an engrossing, stylish thriller that never threatens to wear out its welcome. Full Review
Gambling and gamblers are a movie staple, but Croupier comes at the sport and its population from a fresh and, finally, rewardingly wide perspective. Full Review
Clive Owen conveys a sharp, cynical intelligence that rolls off the screen in waves whenever he widens his glittering blue eyes. Full Review
