Noble Willingham, Jim Holmes

Noble Willingham stars as Ace Barker, a duplicitous redneck whose ugly past starts to catch up with him in The Corndog Man. Ace is a boat salesman, and one of the best in his part of South Carolina. O... read more read more...ne day, he gets a phone call from someone who claims to be in the market for a boat, but before long it's obvious that this caller isn't interested in a day on the water and actually harbors ill will against Ace. It seems that despite his salesman's exterior, Barker is a vicious coward with a racist streak, and he turned his back on a black friend who needed help while in the Army. Barker's new stalker isn't about to let him forget this -- and he also knows about a few of Barker's more recent sexual indiscretions. Ace's nemesis is played by Jim Holmes, who also co-wrote the script with Andrew Shea (who also directed) and David Steen. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

A one-man show for main actor portraying a bigot boat-salesman from Boogerville, who spends much of the film yelling at a mystery man, who continues to harass him over the phone, claiming to be his son. What comes around goes around. One of the few films that can highly entertain... read more or highly annoy me, given my mood.

Not recommended for everyone, but still worth the price of a rental to see the look on the videostore clerk's face when you ask for this title.

Unlikely and maudlin, this cleverly made film has a great stalking premise, but drops the ball when it loses focus in a morass of preachy racial tolerance sermonizing and mental hygiene. The underlying motivation for the stalking is sappy and far-fetched, and the stalker's succ... read moreess would be dubious in real life given the standard and enthusiastic use of pen registers and call tracing. The victim does some things which would be out of character. Then the plot sort of falls apart and peters out.

The producers missed a chance for multiple twists and better intrigue, yet while this movie falls short of the mark in a variety of ways, there's a lot of ingenuity in the filming, and you can't take your eye's off the story, for want of seeing how it will play out. The filmmakers had a racial/moral agenda, and seem to have put the story together to satisfy the need for some personal axe grinding, yet if minor changes were made to the antagonist's motivation, this could have been top notch film.

As it is, it's annoyingly condescending in it's need to make a point: bigotry is bad. Yes, we know. Thanks. We didn't need the filmmakers to tell us that. By the same token, our kids don't need the Ten Commandments pasted to their school desks to understand by reading the commandment, "thou shalt not kill," that murder is bad.

Awesome thriller with several twists. If you can get past the incessant phone ringing then this is truly enjoyable. This helps however to show the stress factor not to mention the content of the calls. A definite must see for those who love a good thriller.

A stirring examination of racism in small-town South Carolina in the 1990s with the ingenious device of a... oh screw that. I made my friends watch this and pretended that it was good just to toture them. Not as good as I pretended, not as bad as they claimed.

This is, I think, one of my friend's favorite movies. I wanted to gouge my eyes out. The only reason this isn't a half-star movie is because the corndog man premise is funny.
