Olivier Megaton's Colombiana delivers the thrills at the hand of the gorgeous.

Clocking in at 105 minutes, there isn't much in the way of surprises or twists with the story. For the most part, things are predictable with brief details to fill in what could be plot h

... read moreoles. Nevertheless, having a sexy assassin getting the job done is simply enjoyable.

The film does have its share of assassinations, although the intense action is bottled up until the finale, accompanied by some brisk editing. The earlier segments are comprised of more elaborate and professional killings, which end up as a nice touch between the story's slower segments.

There are no complaints with Zoe Saldana strutting around doing all the dirty work. She fits the bill nicely. The rest of the supporting cast end up with the usual cliched supporting characters, which are no competition for Zoe.

Colombiana does lack its own unique flare, but at the end of the day it is an action thriller that passes the test.

Cast: Zoe Saldana, Michael Vartan, Jordi Mollà, Cliff Curtis, Callum Blue, Lennie James, Amandla Stenberg, Max Martini, Graham McTavish

    Director: Olivier Megaton

Summary: After watching Bogota gangsters slay her parents in cold blood, young Cataleya Restrepo (Zoe Saldana)... read more dedicates her life to becoming a ruthless assassin on the hunt for the criminals who killed her family.

My Thoughts: "It was a good little revenge thriller. I felt remorse for the young Cataleya, but the older one I found to be a bit selfish. I can see where you want revenge and will stop at nothing, but to risk what family you have left? Not very wise. Cataleya shows little respect to her uncle who has taught her everything she knows. The action is OK. It is predictable which takes away the surprise from any revenge flick. Saldana does well in the film. But I just think they spent more time on her look and the sexiness of a woman hired killer then they did on story and character development, which would have helped this film out a lot more."

Luc Besson produced action films are always generally a bit of a guilty pleasure. They usually involve car chases, revenge and parkour too and Colombiana is no exception - except I liked it a little bit more. It doesn't have the humour that many of his other films have like Taxi ... read moreand The Transporter (towards the end), it's quite serious throughout and better for it I think. It's no masterpiece but it's definitely got something special about it, there were even a few moments where I thought, could this be the new Nikita. It's no Nikita but it's definitely related and worth seeking out.

Zoe was electric, but so many of the plot points just didn't make sense. It was Leon The Professional, but without the comic relief and heartwarming at its center. Without those two things, you end up with a cold, heartless, soulless homage to premeditated violence.

A child witnesses the deaths of her parents right in front of her at the hands of a mobster, and, after she escapes, she trys to rebuild her life and vows revenge. That's it.

For co-writer and producer Luc Besson, this is comfortable, familiar territory. He's become an old pro ... read moreat being involved with films concerning tough attractive women out for revenge who use the profession of hired killer as a means of getting said revenge, This time around though, there's a lack of depth, development, and substance.

If all you want to see (and nothing more) is Zoe Saldana looking hot, especially while kicking ass and taking names, then you should be happy. If you want a story or characters you care about ot go along with it, then you'll be disappointed.

Saldana is fine with the action material, and she's becoming more credible with this type of thing. However, when her character actually has moments of vulnerability and she's supposed to get emotional, they don't work becuase the character isn't well developed, and the audience doesn't connect with her or but those scenes. I think it's because the film never takes the time to have her grow as a character. Even as a child whe nshe's escaping from thugs with guns, she's shown as an adept superwoman without any prior establishment that she's supposed to be this way from the start. Also, I really didn't buy the implausibility of the "choice" scene when her uncle tries to make her assess what she wants to do with her life.

Like I said though, Saldana does decent with the action stuff, some of the action scenes are decent, and I wasn't bored. I didn't care though, and ultimately, the film never blew me away, instead coming off as a typical mediocre action film. Take it or leave it.

A bland and unoriginal revenge thriller with Zoe Saldana being the best thing in a movie that is instantly forgettable.
