Combining "All Quiet On The Western Front" and "Gone With The Wind" here are the horrors of the Civil War as seen through civilian eyes. Zellweger's character arc is something to be seen and Portman makes a noteworthy appearance as well. Worth your time.

A romanticized civil war film with a fantastic cast and a heartfelt story. The length of the film might run a little long for some, but I enjoyed all of it.

A very long movie about civil war that will make you bored. However, it is a good movie that deserves to be watched. But I don't quite like it and doubt that I will watch it again in the future. The cinematography is beautiful. They have a good job in making the accent of the are... read more

A wonderful film! I really did not know what to expect when I watched this because I had only heard a little bit about it, some good, some bad. I was very surprised by how good it was. I loved it!
Best thing about the movie is the absolutely brilliant cast. I don't really lik... read more -

This is a pretty long Civil War melodrama, but it's pretty damn good. I;m not really into romance movies, but Civil War dramas are okay in my book.
I really like the cast and the performances they give. That includes even the bit parts by Jack White, Ethan Suplee, and others. ... read more -

There is no denying that Cold Mountain is a good movie. if you were to make a list of things that a "good movie" shoud have, it would hit every single item. It has a good story, one that is very famiilar while still unique; great acting from a talented and popular cast; and is sp... read more

For a movie that romanticizes the Civil War, it's quite entertaining and well acted. In the context of the script, the plot makes perfect sense and it doesn't try to make the South seem like a beautiful and happy place. Jude Law and Nicole Kidman were great and you couldn't ask f... read more

It?s not bad but I very much doubt I will ever watch it again! I found Zellweger extremely irritating.
Critic Reviews
Cold is right -- Anthony Minghella's pretty, star-studded adaptation of the bestselling Civil War romance never makes it above freezing. Full Review
At 154 minutes, Cold Mountain is long and seems long, at times inspired, at times merely dutiful. But in most of the important ways, it succeeds. Full Review
Cold Mountain is the equivalent of comfort food: old-fashioned, earthy, satisfying.
It's enough of a spectacle to enjoy. It's too bad the stars are little more than serviceable and give the movie title an irony it could certainly do without. Full Review
It's a great old-fashioned wallow of a time at the movies. Full Review
Watching this movie, it seems to be the next level down from great -- maybe too episodic. But it burns in the memory weeks after you see it. Full Review
Crowded with fascinating supporting characters, who make the long haul -- the movie clocks in at 2 1/2 hours -- worth attempting. Full Review
It is a promontory of undeniable beauty and occasional power, but Cold Mountain remains so dark and distant on the screen -- shivering in a wintry gloom -- that it hardly casts an emotional shadow.
Good, sometimes thrilling, but it's less a war epic than an evocative romantic melodrama with a patchy first hour. Full Review
