Cast: Samuel L. Jackson, Ed Harris, Eva Mendes, Luis Guzmán, Keke Palmer, Christa Campbell, Ritchie Montgomery, Robert Forster, Peter Franzen

    Director: Renny Harlin

Summary: After years as a detective, Tom Carver (Samuel L. Jackson) runs a business specializing in cleaning... read more up crime scenes. But when he realizes his latest gig at a ritzy suburban house might have been a cover-up for a homicide, he must clean up the injustice. Our hygienic hero gets far more than he bargained for in director Renny Harlin's twisty crime thriller, co-starring Ed Harris as Carver's old partner and Eva Mendes as a grieving wife.

My Thoughts: "Original, interesting, and a suspenseful murder mystery. Most films with Samuel L. Jackson you see him kicking ass and being a loud personality. In this film he is a calm single father. Quite a switch from his usual films. I really enjoyed him in the movie. I also enjoyed the story, it being something I haven't seen before. Always great when there's a new concept that works. The twist is also good in this film. I really didn't see it going the way it did. Ed Harris and Samuel L. Jackson are great together in this movie, and I would really like to see them teamed up in another film. Keke Palmer also does a great job in this movie and her character really tugs at your heart strings. It was a great character driven mystery. Worth taking a look at."

This is a pretty good thriller with an interesting and original story. The performances are solid as is the script, the only real problem is that, with so many modern thrillers, due to few lead characters (4 in this case) it's never going to be a big surprise as to 'Who dunnit'. ... read moreThat said, it wasn't predictable and was never boring and shouldn't be passed by as just another straight to video thriller.

Standard thriller with only one surprise or two but not much else. As soon as I saw Ed Harris come into play, I knew what was going to happen by the end. What elevates this film from terrible to just average is the performances by Samuel L. Jackson and Harris. Both are great in a... read more pretty dull and pulse-less thriller.

The most enjoyable performance by Samuel L Jackson in the last few years. ?Cleaner? shows a new and interesting perspective from the crime scene and all in all was an enjoyable film with an enjoyable cast.

    700th Review!

I found this film fascinating. There is no real villain and the plot is brilliant: a man who makes his living cleaning up after dead bodies becomes embroiled in a conspiracy when he realizes that he's done a job before the police were called. All the acting is st... read moreellar in this, as is the dialogue and the exchanges between characters. It must be very hard for a single writer to do, but every character has a very distinct personality and voice that comes through in even the briefest scenes. Keke Palmer was great in this, and she and Samuel Jackson create a really believable father-daughter dynamic. The direction was terrific and I even liked the gore effects. It's unusual for them to actually add to the story instead of seeming gratuitous. I really relished this film.

An excellent cast of previous supporting actors heads up this film about acrime scene cleaner who accidentally cleans up a crime scene that he then can't find any information on. A bit predictable as it goes along, but the acting - especially by Sam - is top-notch. Keeps you inte... read morerested the whole time.

Not a bad movie, just not a very good one. Fell very flat of what it could have been. I would have expected it to have a little more to it and perhaps some flashbacks to the past as that was a story that was very under told in this. Also it was fairly short running at around 85 ... read moreminutes or so - I would have expected the ending to be a little longer and tie everything up a bit more than it did. Still, I did not not enjoy this and cast are all good in it.

A reasonably good thriller with a very strong cast. Not the best story and a little predictable but fine for an evenings viewing.

Ex-police detective turned "cleaner," Sam Jackson proves once again he can make any role feel 'cool.'
This movie had a lot of promise. Decent premise, great cast (love Ed Harris and Guzman as well), but it falls apart in its transparency.
Within minutes of the open you see w... read morehere this is going pretty much to the dot on the coroner's signature. This original problem could have been ameliorated had the rest of the set up not been just as clear cut. It was to the point of being linear it was all so obvious.
In addition, they do a lot of close-ups of the crime scenes and they were really fake looking. There should have been more effort here especially given that they were the focus of much of the subject matter.
Some of the dialogue was good and the acting was, of course, excellent, but the movie just lacked a lot in the way of making you look one way while going in another...the smart viewer will see it long before the lens allows in this one.
Maybe worth a watch for the performances, but not for the substance.

It was decent. Better than expected.

I did like the dynamic between Samuel L. Jackson and Keke Palmer. I'd like to see them play father and daughter in the better film.

A neatly contained crime whodunit with a nifty setup and an expert lead performance from Samuel L. Jackson.

It's not that Cleaner is a terrible film, it just doesn't rear back and sock the viewer in the jaw like a great thriller should. It's mild sauce from the first frame to the last. Full Review
