She's sure she has what it takes to join their ranks, so when she's coldly turned away, she vows to sharpen her skills and prove her worth. After enlisting the assistance of a handsome hockey player-turned-dancer, Kate heads out to a cutting edge hip-hop club in order to learn the moves needed to earn her rightful spot amongst the most respected dancers in the world. This ballet drama of the American Ballet Academy is getting much better than the original because it has high energy and traffic-stopping dance moves like the following sequel of Step Up - amazing!

Not realistic. AT ALL. Only recommended for fans of dance movies.

chemistry was great. but i was laughing my head off because what happened in the end was the unlikeliest thing ever! an untrained dancer getting accepted into one of the most prestigious BALLET schools in the country? yeahh..okay.

This was an enjoyable sequel. Aside from bringing two characters back from the first movie and the connection with the ABA this could have been any other movie about a guy and girl and their struggles in the dance world. This focused a lot on other types of dancing and got away f... read morerom the strict ballet of the first movie and that was fun.

This is a run of the mill dance movie for the most part, except for three things: The lead actress has amazing legs and a normal body shape, not a dancer/ballerina type body; One of the supporting male actors is an actual male ballet star; and the choreographer has a small role a... read moreround the middle part of the movie. These three things really add to the movie and set it apart from other movies of the genre for me.

I absolutely LOVED the first movie so I was so excited to find this on cable over the weekend. I had no idea a sequel was even in the works. Not sure why it took 8 years for filmmakers to follow up though. And although it doesn't surpass my feelings for the first I loved this o... read morene too! A great addition of hip hop with ballet along with bringing two characters from the first back. The ending, I'm sad to say seemed too thrown together and rushed. I would have liked to have seen it more in depth even if it meant lengthening the film. (which wouldn't have been bad). I had never heard of the main actress that played Kate Parker but she was absolutely stunning. A real life dancer given the lead role. She played the part well. I'm hoping for a third addition!

All self-taught dancer Kate Parker (Rachele Brooke Smith ) has ever wanted to do was perform with the American Academy of Ballet. She leaves her hometown of Detroit headed for New York but finds herself competing against dancers like prodigy Suzanne Von Stroh (Sarah Jayne Jensen)... read more who has been trained in ballet all her life. When Kate doesn't succeed at the audition, she learns that it takes more than precision and perfection to succeed in the dance world. With a turn in a cutting-edge hip-hop club and the help of Tommy Anderson (Kenny Wormald), a good-looking former hockey player turned dancer, she may just find the passion she needs to make her dreams come true.

It might be formulaic and predictable, but there's plenty of appeal in this energy-filled film about reaching for your dreams. Set in the world of dance, the story is as much about passion as it is ab... Full Review
