Casablanca

Humphrey Bogart, Ingrid Bergman, Paul Henreid, Claude Rains, Conrad Veidt

One of the most beloved American films, this captivating wartime adventure of romance and intrigue from director Michael Curtiz defies standard categorization. Simply put, it is the story of Rick Blai... read more read more...ne (Humphrey Bogart), a world-weary ex-freedom fighter who runs a nightclub in Casablanca during the early part of WWII. Despite pressure from the local authorities, notably the crafty Capt. Renault (Claude Rains), Rick's cafà (C) has become a haven for refugees looking to purchase illicit letters of transit which will allow them to escape to America. One day, to Rick's great surprise, he is approached by the famed rebel Victor Laszlo (Paul Henreid) and his wife, Ilsa (Ingrid Bergman), Rick's true love who deserted him when the Nazis invaded Paris. She still wants Victor to escape to America, but now that she's renewed her love for Rick, she wants to stay behind in Casablanca. "You must do the thinking for both of us," she says to Rick. He does, and his plan brings the story to its satisfyingly logical, if not entirely happy, conclusion. ~ Robert Firsching, Rovi

Casablanca: This movie appears at lists for best love stories of all time, listed with predictable ,every day chick
flick stories as if there is no difference .
    But there is!
At first you may guess that's an old black and white movie (obviously) but no,this is not it's basic d... read moreifference.
Quality...that is the right word,is what you can not find anymore in any of the romantic movies we watch nowadays.
The slight and smooth expression of the feeling between the characters, the electrifying looks and the speaking silence
are enough to give to the all time classic "you find true love once " a qualified point of view
,without having to interfere into cheap ways of expressing it by a sex scene or another happy ending.
Concluding with an advice :if you are searching for fairytales, well, don't bother watching.

Well Finally i've seen the very classic movie Casablanca, do i think its worth all the anticipation prior to watching it and do i believe its worth the exceptional reviews, probably not no, Its certainly not a movie id watch again and although a short movie i thought it would nev... read moreer end! Romance movies are always hard to engage me as there is nothing much going on, a few comical moments provided by Bogart and Rains but not enough to make me love the movie, the iconic phrases as well i didnt miss and they were great, but as a whole i didnt enjoy the movie that much!

One of the greatest and beloved love stories of the "Golden Years of Hollywood", an original script with essential acting and direction. Fresh.

CASABLANCA, unfortunately, suffers from the same two things that plague almost every movie released prior to the 1960s. It tends to be slow and trashy. Somehow, I actually teared up a bit within the last twenty minutes of the film. It's not often I'm as interested in a film so da... read moreted as I was here, nor is it often for ANY film to move me. The best part of CASABLANCA may have been the performances of Bogart and Bergman. The two of them are powerful enough in their roles to make for what would pass for a film of today's era, with a few necessary touches. Like I said, CASABLANCA enjoys all the honor it deserves.

One of the most perfect movies ever made. Everything from the story, the pacing, the dialogue and the casting are flawless. Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman are phenomenal. A must see for any movie fan in general.

Casablanca is definitely brilliant filmmaking for it's time, although it does show it's age and it's slow pace makes a few scenes hard to get through, but I love this movie and everyone in it. The story is a little bit predictable, with a few twists to make you smile in the end, ... read morethe cinematography is great, the acting is quite believable, and the famous quotes make the screen light right up. This is easily one of the best romance films ever made, but I do think it is over-praised and may let many people down who watch it today. I got exactly what I was expecting going in. Therefore, it is a fantastic romance film at heart, with amazing dialogue and conclusion that will have your heart-pounding. Amazing film!

Casablanca isconsidered on of the greatest films in cinematic history, and its no secret why. The plot is a slow story where we learn more and more as we go along, and we grow to really care about the characters and we start to really fall in live with the story and how perfect ... read moreevery moment is. Humphry Bogart is called single greatest actor in history, and everybody knows why, because his role in this film was so monumentally amazing and is one of the greatest roles in film history. The entire cast also does monumental work and I can honestly say this was one of the best film casts I have ever seen. Casablanca is a work of art, it is so great that the entire world loves it and its greatness is known worldwide, and it honestly deserves every piece of recognition it gets.

It was really amazing to watch this with the RTE Orchestra playing the soundtrack live (their rendition of Le Marseillaise was breathtaking). The film is one of those of cinema's sacred cows which actually deserve their status, a monument for all that Hollywood still stands for. ... read moreAnd I don't care if she's dead: Ingrid Bergman is still probably the only woman I'd fall in love with

This is number 3 on AFI's top 100, and many actually put it at number 1. Honestly, I just didn't think it was all that great. I mean there are some great, iconic moments in this movie, but as a whole it's kind of boring. The romance is terrific, even though I think they needed... read more more scenes together. The film works best when Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman are with one another. When they are apart, the movie kind of drags and comes to a stand still. I'll give the movie this, their on screen romance is one of the best love stories ever(even if it is slow). Made in 1943, it has aged nicely, but I imagine it was still boring for a movie back then as well. The movie has some of the best quotes ever in film, but between the fantastic lines are endless amounts of meaningless dialogue. If you put this movie in your top 10 of all time, good for you, but we have very different tastes. Good for a one time watch, just to say you've seen "Casablanca", but I doubt I'll return for another visit anytime soon.
