George Segal plays rich and surly California executive Walter Whitney, who learns out-of-the-blue that he has a 17-year-old black son, in Michael Schultz's lightweight Carbon Copy. When his son Roger ... read more read more...Porter (Denzel Washington) arrives, Walter tries to pass him off to his neighbors in the restricted all-white suburb as a sociological experiment. But when he eventually confesses his parenthood to his wife Vivian (Susan Saint James), his world is turned upside down. In a flash, all the trophies of upper-class white respectability are removed -- he loses his job, his credit cards are revoked, and Vivian throws him out of the house. Without the white man's trappings, he is forced to accept the help of downtrodden minorities. When he is compelled to manual labor, Walter comes to understand the troubles his son goes through. ~ Paul Brenner, Rovi

Older movie but a very young Denzel Washington's first role. Interesting this was made in 1981 and the storyline could be a modern movie. I liked George Segal in this one and Jack Warden is pretty good too. This movie has some funny parts and although dated is not too bad.

For being washington's first film it's not horrible, he's just not believable as a seventeen year old.

This movie holds up better than many comedies of the time. Interesting to see Denzel's very early work too.

an oldie but goodie....a good movie....Denzel playing the part of meeting his white dad... What a shocker....he may not was there for Denzel and his mother while he was growing up but he didn't deny the fact that he fathered denzel a black man....The movie is funny too with a gre... read moreat storyline and I loved it....Now the man was in denial with his self and changing his jewish last name to a white last name, but he still stood by his son and lost everything else....his son denzel, mattered afterall...Great ending too....
