f self-doubt and confusion, the boy learned that he was Transgendered, and four years ago he took the necessary steps to externally live into the gender he had always been internally. The first of these steps was taking on his new name: Malcolm. As the film begins, so does Malcolm's final summer vacation from seminary. It is a time filled with great concern and apprehension. He is, by all accounts, unemployed, uncertain about his future as a minister, unrecognized as Malcolm by his parents and without a "love" in his life.Malcolm sits at the edge of the Grand Canyon, just as he sits at the precipice of his future. With what identity will he serve his parishioners? How will the world perceive him? Can his family learn to accept him? Who will love him?And so begins a journey of faith. A road trip across America. An effort to connect, to understand, to witness.Beginning in a small town outside of Denver, Malcolm attempts to reconnect with his past by visiting a former high school teacher whom he has not seen since he transitioned. He then drives to Cortez, to meet Pauline Mitchell, whose son was murdered for being different. The crime gained national headlines at a time when Malcolm was just beginning to transition.Malcolm heads to Los Angeles to have lunch with Calpernia Addams, a stunning male to female transsexual, with an inspiring tale of transformation.Malcolm then travels up the west coast to meet with a San Francisco police sergeant, who gained international attention when he transitioned on the force.Meanwhile a romance blooms. Malcolm begins dating someone, and while the budding relationship is a welcome one, it carries with it a new set of questions, and concerns. Malcolm is torn between the journey he has set out on and the woman he has come to love back home. The penultimate chapter takes place in New York City. By the time Malcolm arrives on the East Coast, his journey has covered more than just miles. And his future holds more possibilities than he ever could have dreamed.--© Official Site
