The film begins as Cahill is hot on the trail of a gang of outlaws. After the big showdown, he returns to town to discover that the local bank has been robbed. The sheriff and the deputy have been killed, and four bank robbers are imprisoned in the jail. He is stunned when he finds out that one of the robbers in jail is Cahill's son Danny. It seems that during Cahill's absence from home, his two sons have been enticed into a criminal life by nefarious outlaw Abe Fraser (George Kennedy). ~ Paul Brenner, Rovi

Absolutely of the Duke's western so John Wayne and George Kennedy (as the chief baddie) made wonderful performances.

Is it just me or are all 70's movies simplistic? John Wayne ignores his kids who get in trouble who get rescued by John Wayne who promises to pay more attention to his kids.

Made after the legend had taken over from the actor, this is typically a script that contained a John Wayne shaped hole in it , rather than a 3 dimensional character. One of John Wayne's late westerns and you can tell that the golden era of the west is long bygone. Still, the Duke still got it and wouldn't it be for him, this movie would be mediocre at best. The story is another washup of the Rooser Cogburn characters, with the old Marshall st... read moreanding alone against a bunch of bad guys (great as always, George Kennedy). However, the movie introduces a twist in the form of Marshall Cahill's two young sons who get entangled in the fight between good and evil and Cahill struggles to fulfill his duties on both ends, as a father and a Marshall. This adds a bit of depth to the role and the film but the story never leaves the area of the familiar and as such, the extra glazing of the cake quickly runs dry. Still, for fans of the Duke, this is a must and a better movie than many of his other late outputs. Wayne's son Michael produced this and no other than Andrew V. McClagen produced this.

A John Wayne western of a career driven man who has ignored his offspring and is now paying for it. Could this have been a real life drama for John Wayne and his son Patrick Wayne.
