Excellent adaptation of the novel. Bridget is unlucky in love, a little overweight, smokes too much and has an embarrassing mother. This is her lucky year - two men but will she chose Mr. Right? I love the fighting scene in the street. Great cast. Funny rom com. You just sympath... read more

July 21, 2011fb535316333Watching Grant and Firth charm the hell out of Zellweger is thoroughly entertaining. It's a really fun romedy and although I'm not sure of the post-feminist connotations of the character, Jones is a likable quirky heroine.
Has everything a romedy really "needs". Sharp wit, charm... read more -

My original rating for this was 5 stars, have now downgraded it to 4 after a rewatch. I guess my standards are a little higher these days. For a romantic comedy it is good, but not that good!

A decent Rom-com with some very funny scenes, but sooo predictable. Not quite sure about the cult status, but quite enjoyable any how.
Critic Reviews
It's so aggressive you don't even have to like it; the movie likes itself well enough for the both of you. Full Review
Ms. Zellweger makes the most of what she's given and manages to triumph time and again over her pratfalls and public rump displays. In a word, she's terrific. Full Review
It's Zellweger's unselfishness that sells the movie. How many other young actresses would be willing to let a movie make fun of their fat thighs? Full Review
Yes, the movie adaptation is just fine, thank you. Full Review
The film tries to position itself as a comic anthem for unshackled single-womanhood, but it's aimed at the bland middle. Full Review
How can you celebrate a movie in which Zellweger doesn't soar but simply avoids disaster? Full Review
All power to Firth the actor. He's the compleat Darcy, and he never wavers. Full Review
Where the highly likable actress [Zellweger] proves most valuable is in making us adore this insecure, clumsy, contradictory creature. Full Review
Let me say in Bridget Jonesy fashion that Zellweger is an irresistible sex goddess, hurrah!!! Full Review
