Initially upset at this turn of events, Jess soon comes to value Leslie as a friend, and the two create an imaginary secret kingdom called Terabithia, and install themselves as king and queen. Terabithia, which can only be reached by swinging on a rope across a creek bed, is a haven for the two friends, a place where they can be safe from the problems that confront them in the real world, and where they can let their imaginations run wild. Unfortunately, tragedy strikes one morning as Leslie attempts to travel to Terabithia alone, and then Jess is forced to come to terms with the results of that tragedy. ~ Craig Butler, Rovi

A hard one to remember at this stage of my life, I remember that it wasn't as heart-breaking as the novel - read this book! - and took a few liberties that challenged the illusion, perhaps due to a small budget. I do recall, though, that it was at least decent fare for its target... read more audience, and it can't help but tell a good story, even if it is a PBS movie. The new Disney-fication frightens me, though... I may just stick with the ghost of this one in my memory instead of (shudder) upgrading.

this movie was good - it worked well not having special effects as it releied on the characters themselves and their description of their imaginings to push the movie forward. Very well done

It isn't every day that you see a movie so celebratory of childlike imagination that it not only makes you believe in the characters' fantasy worlds, but it inspires a few of your own as well. Full Review
