A 90s rom com starring Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson that's basically a cheap knock off of Pygmalion with a shabby blackmail plot tacked on. As good as it sounds.

Melanie Griffith is a total charmer in this but everyone else is just okay.

Okay remake of the classic 1950 film. If course, it can't hold a candle to the original, but it is such a good story it would be hard to mess it up, and it does follow the original very closely. The cast is fine, Don Johnson is surprisingly effective.

Good, but see the original with Judy Holliday first. I liked that one better; although Johnson is very hot in this movie....

It's one thing to cast airheaded Melanie Griffith as your lead role. It's another to cast tubby John Goodman as a romantic lead and rival of Don Johnson. Laughable stuff.
Critic Reviews
The gin rummy game with Griffith and Goodman instead of Holliday and Crawford is enough to ruin a night out. Full Review
There is a fatal disconnection between place and characters who, conceived in one era, are crazily transported into another in which they don't quite fit. Full Review
To the growing list of unnecessary movies, add this remake of the Garson Kanin comedy.
There's no sense of screwball mayhem in the picture, no topsy-turvy brightness. Full Review
In old Hollywood, style could make up for a lack of substance, but this remake is without either. Full Review
There's little (if anything) to recommend this movie. Full Review
This is supposed to be snappy material, and it comes across gloomy. Full Review
Griffith almost makes it watchable. She is as charismatic a camera presence as ever, but her magic is mostly muted in this flat retread. Full Review
Where Holliday was always too sophisticated a butterfly right from the off, Griffith's copycat performance starts dumb -- but then never takes wing. Full Review
