Sequel to Boogeyman, this is a poor attempt at delivering a good, horrifying and fun experience. This is a horrible film, and considering that the first was a good, underrated flick, you'd understand why this one might be bad. I felt that whatever made the first film watchable wa... read mores absent, and the filmmakers simply took elements of the first film to make this film. Unfortunately there's nothing good at work here, nothing new to thrill or entertain the viewer neither. Boogeyman 2 is a pointless and quite frankly unnecessary sequel to a good little horror film. This film is just not what the first film was, and that's a mindless, entertaining monster flick. I think that there was a lot of potential in delivering a watchable sequel, but with this film, it misses the mark, and ends up being a film with nothing good about it. This is a poorly conceived sequel, and considering this, Boogeyman should never have had a follow-up. The acting here is pretty poor and the script is bland and like I stated, relies on ideas explored upon in the first film, thus a sequel was not needed. The studio just wanted more money with a sequel, and it's the case with this film. No creative effort was put into this film, and the end product is a film that is poorly done, lazy and uninspired with a poor cast to act out stuff we've seen in the first flick. If you've seen the first film, and haven't seen the sequels, don't, you'll be glad you did, and you're not missing out on much.

If this wasn't the sequel of the first one, then it would have been awesome. But it just ruined everything. It became more of a slasher than supernatural. I liked the story and acting and everything. But it's supposed to carry on with the starting right? We are talking about Boog... read moreeyman! Not some maniac! Jeez. They should have kept the originality of the movie. If they wanted to change the whole theory, then just change the title of the movie and also don't attach it with the first one. It's misleading.

Loose sequel to the mind numbingly drab original. It also seems like a remake of Nightmare on Elm Street 3. Bunch of headcases in a hospital start to get killed off. This film eliminates the supernatural elements and goes for a slasher approach. This does allow them to save money... read more and get rid of that horrible CGI thing from the first film. It isn't enough though. Bell is a nice addition but plays it pretty much as he does in the Saw movies. The twist may have though it was being brave and dangerous, but this tactic has been used in other slasher series.

Didn't see the whole thing, just the last half hour when things begin to get bloody.

Super gore highlight when the murderer opens a victim's chest and removes his still beating heart. That scene alone is worth a rental.

The costuming and mask are excellent, and the CG is quit... read moree bearable for the budget. Saw comparisons abound as the doctor character is the actor who plays Jigsaw, the murderer uses tape recorders to stage the heart scene, and the end includes a series of twists.

Great gore, the crew does what they can with the so-so set, but they apparently could not invest in tripods, dollys, or even some steadicam attachments.

Other than a 10 second reference to the first one it bares no other similarities, lucky for it.
It's nothing great but it does have a few well done bloody moments and it's plot devices harken back to the 80's.

better-than-expected and refreshingly brutal little horror flick.

I haven't seen the first one, & I don't plan to (yet). But this film is just laughable. From the acting, to the whole realistic Boogeyman concept.

As I always say, "Anything that goes from fictional to realistic, will turn out like shit" - and this movie is another perfect exa... read moremple. So the whole concept of a man who knows everyone's fears & then later one someone goes killing them all using their own fear against them sounds neat, but it it's in fact horribly done.

The cameras don't seem to stand still, there are a large amount of plot holes, & the majority of the characters are just stupid (literally).

THE FOLLOWING REVIEW CONTAINS SOME SPOILERS (but who cares)

Characters: The characters in here are all either stupid or plain out useless or both. The main character has little personality, & then seems to lose her fear after a few seconds even when she's being chased or when she knows when she's in danger. Such as the scene where she locks herself in a room after seeing a horrible, gruesome scene of one of the patient's death, after a few minutes, the horror she witnessed suddenly vanishes. After the whole mental institute (or the last 3 remaining of them lock themselves inside their rooms) she suddenly decides to show a "Fuck, finally I'm alone," expression, & listens to her MP3 player like nothing had or is going to happen.

Then there is Johnny Simmon's character, an entomophobic[?] neat freak who is stupid enough to actually drink a bottle of CLEANING SOLUTION after the VILLAIN hands it directly to him, which later on burns a whole in his throat, resultin in his [probably painful] death. The guy did this after eating [Madagascar hissing] cockroach that was in his bag of potato chips. Can anyone get any stupider?

Then we have a character who also happens to be an entomphobic (or is just afraid of maggots) named Alison (played by Mae Whitnam). Her character suddenly dies after the 'Boogeyman' places maggots on her arms, which then literally crawl into her skin, but she can do nothing about it due to her being tied up on a bed. But wait, there is a knife by her, so she reached for it, cuts off pieces of her flesh where the maggots crawled into, thus resulting her her death of shock & bleeding. But wait, she could have used that knife to cuts herself free, oh but wait! She was tied, how did she manage to release her arms to get the knife, but release herself or drop the maggots? Talk about stupid!

Then we have Dr. Ryan, one of the workers of the mental hospital, who decides to head into the basement, & look for another worker who hadn't come back yet. She finds Gloria (the worker) dead, & gives a small 'omg' expression, & then see the Boogeyman across from her holding a giant electrical chord, & also notices herself standing on a puddle of water. Does she run? No! She just stays staring at the guy with her terrible acting as he watches her for a few more seconds, & then drops the chord, & shocks her. She couldn't even scream as the horrible shaking [which was intended] made it laughable.

Then we have the two idiotic lovers, Darren & Nicky. Woo we get no background information on them or their relationship. But we do get a sex scene of the two, & boy what a bad one it is. Then the two get into some illogical, random fight, & Darren throws Nicky out of his room. He later dies in his room by the Boogeyman when his heart gets torn out of him. How did that happen? Lets see, Darren punched his mirror after the fight, & left the room for a few minutes (just enough for anyone, even the villain, sneak in) to get teh first aid kit (which also makes you wonder why don't any of the rooms carry any of those), & then walks back into his room, where the Boogeyman is waiting in a small, semi-dark corner of his room.

Nicki later dies herself from being filled up with some sort of fat/bile with tubes attached to alost every part of her body. She bursts because of it. It was not a pretty scene.

Then we get Tobin Bell's character, the patients' doctor. He has the same face throughout the whole movie (as he does in all of his Saw movie appearances), & little personality.

Cast & Acting: The acting this movie was HORRIBLE, & all the actors in here were nothing but no-names (except for Tobin Bell. But who hasn't heard of that guy?).

Story/Plot: It makes little to no sense, & it carries many plot holes. Such as how the hell did the Boogeyman get a hold of Alison when she was supposed to be with someone else in the same room? The movie's ending was just terrible (but pretty well written). Oh, & it is also VERY predictable.

Effects: There is a lot of gore in this movie, A LOT of gore. Probably the only thing this movie did right.

Dialogue: It's corny, very corny. Enough said.

Final summation, this film is horrible, just plain out horrible. It's not bad enough to be good, it's just bad.

A great sequel. It had nothing to do with the last one though, that's the only problem..This is a completely different story. The acting was good, especially from one of my favorite horror movie actors, Tobin Bell. It had very scary\creepy moments, which is good...the blood\gore ... read morewas insane as well. The "boogeyman" looked much much better\more realistic instead of the one in the first installement...although this one looks like a member from Slipknot. The make up was somewhat ok, but that doesn't stop this film from being an outstanding sequel.

Eons better than the boring original, this takes a shitty supernatural story and changes it to a good slasher film. It's like Raimi/Tapert realized their team had made a bad film but dug the concept and got them to completely reboot it, for the better. So what was lame is now g... read moreory and quite well paced. Way better than it had any right to be.

Boogeyman sequels takes a different direction & didn't turn out to be a PG-13 supernatural flick with CGI effects. This time is a gory slasher film. The story & the characters wasn't that interesting but what comes through for the film is some graphic death scenes & the gore effect... read mores are well done. The film becomes predictable but the ending wasn't so bad.Is an average & fast pace horror film that's better than the first Boogeyman.

A whole lot gorier than the first one. I love how the beloved PG-13 gets tossed in the dumpster once the letters "DTV" are brought up. Full Review
